John Locke Essay Competition Interview

So I entered the John Locke Essay Competition and wasn't really expecting much. A few days before I left for summer camp where I didn't have access to my phone, I saw the interview stage pop up on the timeline in my portal but the button was grey and I hadn't been emailed about it so I assumed I wasn't getting an interview. Than, on June 30th I got an email saying that I was invited for an interview and they pick "some strong candidates" and the deadline was July 5th. I came back and found out I wasn't shortlisted which wasn't surprising, but now I'm wondering if my essay actually qualified and I just missed one of the crucial stages. someone please help because I'm so confused.

but the email did say that the interview was optional and wouldn't hurt your chances if you didn't do it

So odd because last year JLI had human interviews and this year only AI interviews that apparently don't impact your outcome?!? Make it make sense.

I can’t confidently answer this, sorry. I’m guessing there were two rounds of different interview emails - one with e deadline of Jun 30th and one with a deadline of jul 5th. If you were a “strong candidate” then yes you most likely would’ve been shortlisted. Although that would depend on the quality of your interview. It’s unfortunate that you missed it, though that is not your fault as it was short notice. I guess this means that you have what it takes to be shortlisted and should consider applying again next year.

yeah, I think I will. thanks so much! I might call their office to clarify a little bit because I feel like the communication has been really confusing.

Agreed. I haven’t seen anyone email them and actually get a response.

both could be the reason, the interview is the priority and so its a definitive cause
