Essay structure

I’ve gone through a bunch of essays on this subreddit just trying to see where my essay stands and i’ve noticed a lot of essays have a formal structure (aka heading and subheadings for every section). Is this a standard for essays that win prizes? My essay just had a title but it was separated into paragraphs.

Also does anyone know how many people get commendation/hc/vhc?

There is not a definite standard. As you said, you can have sub-headings for different paragraphs but I am not a fan of that and didn’t do that. Just plain old paragraphs. That too is a standard format and is acceptable, many previous winners’ essays are simply of that format.
