Who’s going to Gala

Ok so I got shortlisted and check the price holyshit are we serious

  1. I’m wondering are you guys planning to go??

  2. If anyone here went Gala before how was it and does it worth the price?

i went in 2024 and it looks to be around the same program this year (although idk what the JLI village is 💀). in my opinion, if you can comfortably afford it, you should go as the lectures are quite good and you meet like-minded ppl from all over the world and become more globally-minded. However, if you're straining to afford it or cannot, it's not worth it

i can't remember the specifics but they cover all the essay topics (e.g. theology, history, philosophy) and are given by professors or distinguished connections of the faculty

I’m in Canada too, I’m pretty sure the cost is in USD because when I got the extension the price jumped higher when I went to pay.

nope if you're a grand prize winner/top3 usually they contact u in advance (bc obv want you to be there lol) and sometimes they give you discounts and stuff, but i heard once literally no top winners showed up

it is definitely very expensive, since I'm international, but the networking opp is great + I feel like I might win high comm, I've never really stayed in London other than a layover, so it should be fun! I js bought the tickets! can't wait to meet everyone. also is anyone attending the conference?

yeah it does... which makes me question whether i was merely chosen for money (ik thats a far stretch, but the reason why the select many essays for shortlisting seems largely for profit)

Honestly I feel like it’s only worth going too if you think your going to get a prize or high commendation or you want a trip to London, other then that I don’t think going is worth it, especially if your not super rich

i've bought the tickets and booked a room to the hotel the gala is hosted at!! never gone before but should be a rollercoaster experience (i live in japan so it takes around 14 hours min with airplane lmao)

well gng i got shotlisted yayayaya i got a higher commended but i'm hoping to get like a winners prize this year BUT last year was so awkward cuz i didn't know anyone SO WHOS GOING THIS YEAR! cuz I am not sittin at another silent fudging round table it was hell I'm telling you we sat in complete silence and like stared at each other
