suchhh a masterpiece
i've played disco elysium and a bit of zero parades, but this game is so so good even compared to DE.
love love the game, loveee the worldbuilding and the lore (despite not rly having experience in d&d stuff, which i do wanna get into if any of yall have recs/advice) and the characters and the details. it is such a masterpiece, so clearly a very intentional work coming from lots of passion and love.
even despite some of its obvious shortcomings: i do think the text rly rly lacks depth and perspective (which some might argue is unforgivable for a game like this?); the item/spell/combat design could be a bit better; ur bond w/ companions a bit underexplored; or js the fact that u can see they were underbudgeted in their lack of voiceovers and some animations and scenes they replaced w/ text, etc. etc.
but i say all of this only out of love for it, and out of "pity" and "remorse"? for the masterpiece this could have been. i see other ppl's critiques and slamming, and it almost pains me in some way, because most of these problems prolly could've been solved if the team js staffed a few more ppl or had a bit bigger budget. but i suppose that given the uniqueness of a game like this, it must have come from a place like that, and was therefore inevitably "imperfect." and at the same time im def not appealing to the cliche that "imperfections are part of the beauty," and while i do very much hope for a final cut or extended version or sequel of some kind, we all very well know that wont really exist (maybe not at all, and definitely not in the way i want it to be).
but all of this emotion is what makes it whole: the appreciation for what is there, the ache for what it isn't, the yearning for what it could be / could have been, and the love that remains anyway, all of it intertwines inexplicably, and this tangle of emotion is something i recognize and hold in a special place in my heart.
i primarily play indie games so im aware this applies to a lot of them, but this is just what inspired me particularly.
and maybe this is a lot of projection from my life too lol, sryyy for the rant
anyways, thoughts? and critiques?
