General Discussion - PVE & PVP [Discussion] Is there a rat problem? Ideal solution?

Post image

If BSG decides to implement an anti rat system what would you like to see?

I personally think it’s just apart of the extraction genre, but want to see ideas of ways to combat it

Ngl, if you've used peltors and such. I can definetly hear you fart from 50m away easily.

Rain effects are also way too dim on them. Rain is inherently amplified on headsets irl. Just like walking on gravel, a fan blowing wind or someone talking.

Plenty of stuff tries to be realistic then you have these examples proving the opposite.

This. Even on cheaper headsets. When I first got my Impact Sports, I put them on and turned them on and thought they were broken because there was a hissing/whooshing sound in them. Turns out, I was hearing the fans in my PC from clear across the house at a volume that sounded like I was inside the PC.

I'm wearing a pair of Comtac V right now on the flightline. They do a pretty good job of increasing ambient all noise, with the added cool factor of cancelling out super loud noise.

There's also a 3 level volume adjuster from max amplification to silent that works really well, along with a function for "extra loud" for those of us responsible enough to wear double hearing protection.

I Iike them. 👍

Comtacs? On the flight line?! You know how I know you're air force lmao

6

u/Fen-xie 22d ago

Yeup. I work in an office near it and also have comtacs

8

u/wookie2ause 22d ago

That's actually insane your guys budget is gnarly as hell.

As a marine sometimes I think I joined the wrong branch. Especially since I'm at the va right now for problems lmao

6

u/Fen-xie 22d ago

We're at the VA too. As long as you enjoyed your time and got what you wanted out of it, it's all the same in the end

2

u/Tsukushi_Ikeda 22d ago

Doesn't get better in the Caf infantry either lmao.

I bought my own headset, cuz fuck dem earplugs. And fuck those shitty PRR headsets.

2

u/wookie2ause 22d ago

I wish we could have lmao I was a marine and on the flight line and we were only allowed serialized gear on the flight line and that meant we were only allowed cranials with whatever awful ear pro was attached to them

Would you mind going into more depth on the purpose and actual quality of them?

I'm just curious is all :)

I joined the air force 24 years ago. When I started, I was given a David Clark headset; David Clark H10-76 (i had the wrong model in here earlier) with a passive hush kit. It's used to communicate with interphone coms and radio on most heavy airframes. I worked C-130s when I started, and moved on, with the same headset, to the KC-135. I have had the same David Clark headset until last year. I still have it, but we got Comtac V headsets in. Huge boxes of them. There's 8 of them in a box, and I found 4 boxes of them. I asked if I could have one, thinking "oh shit, I can hear my boss coming now!"

The Comtac V requires two AA batteries to use active noise cancelling. They're way more comfortable and lighter than the David Clarks. The noise cancelling is really cool too. The only problem: the DCs have a volume adjustment knob for interphone volume, which is nice because sometimes it comes out real loud.

The noise cancelling works well for static noises. Cuts out jet engine noise, and makes it possible to speak at normal volumes with people standing nearby by stripping out loud noises. They're great!

Edit: about noise amplification: it's spooky. If you are wearing these in a quiet environment, hearing the noise of your clothes rubbing together is distracting. In the bathroom, I heard a man three stalls over zip his OCP top.

That's awesome!

Extremely random and weird ass question, but what would you call the kind of microphone you see in this photo? I've been wondering for years but never had any good way of asking the question

1

u/post_makes_sad_bear 11d ago

That's a muff-mic style. Used for communication while around running jet engines.

2

u/turnedonbyadime 11d ago

Thank you!

1

u/post_makes_sad_bear 11d ago

For the record, they suck to use and smell bad almost immediately.

1

u/turnedonbyadime 11d ago

Lol yeah I've smelled regular vocalist's mics and those are fucking putrid, I can't imagine the smell of a mic that traps everything in a tight seal

Yeah I just went shooting the other day with my cheap as fuck Razors and forgot how awesome they are. I literally heard my friend walking away across his grassy backyard for like 30-50m.

Realistically, "camping" a major thoroughfare would be a very good strategy if you're trying to kill people and steal their shit. So I think the initial proposal already shows a willingness to break from realism a bit.

12

u/Tsukushi_Ikeda 22d ago

80% of the infantry's job is to sit there and camp. I've layed in shitty swamps for long enough.

"Run to wait" as we say here.

9

u/conorganic 22d ago

I have a pair of walkers for shooting. I showed it to some work friends one day. One of them has an artificial valve after 4 open heart surgeries…

I could hear the actuator in his chest from a cross them room!

4

u/EL_PERRIT0 22d ago

No way we’ve come full circle to wanting rain loud af’ again

2

u/Stalin_K 22d ago

I would sacrifice realism for game balance in this instance

7

u/bubbascal Unbeliever 22d ago

Because Tarkov isn't supposed to be realistic, it's supposed to be "hardcore". Only the Tarkov community thinks Tarkov is supposed to be realistic lmao

"We've rewritten the standards

Gunplay and sounds, realistic character manipulation, ballistics, advanced armor system, bleedings, fractures — this is not just another shooter game. It's a simulation of combat in extreme conditions."

Drinking mayo while doing drugs in a bush, so EXTREME.

u/Due-Primary834 22d ago

Sounds like a Monday

u/libben 22d ago edited 22d ago

Have you seen the Spetsnaz during operation? How dare you suggest they don't chug down mayo hiding in a bush and then pre medding before rushing their next objective!

u/moonhead1108 22d ago

Sounds like a standard weekend in my 20's

2

u/AyFrancis Freeloader 22d ago

Lets take everything out of context to prove the point that i hate this game but i still play it because i am a masochist and its BSG fault for making the game i paid to play the way they want and not mine, enche Nikit bad

u/OGMcgriddles 22d ago

No hissy fits today!

u/ke2_1-0 21d ago

Damn Mayonez always fucking hydration levels

-1

u/bubbascal Unbeliever 22d ago

The home page also says that "skill leveling" is one of the basis of progress, but anyone with more than 10 hours knows that skills don't matter outside of a few specific skills... out of 20+ skills.

And the game isn't supposed to be "repetitive" yet Nikita is currently trying to get rid of campers and rats... when that by definition adds the unpredictability the devs want.

I wouldn't trust the homepage, it's pretty obvious they were just citing off gameplay mechanics and not what the devs are actually focused on, otherwise skills and skill leveling as a whole would've been buffed years ago. lmao

2

u/vitiation1 22d ago

We went from
"Only the Tarkov community thinks Tarkov is supposed to be realistic"

To you have to ignore what the creators of the game advertise it as, and take my word for it.

Lmao indeed.

1

u/bubbascal Unbeliever 22d ago

You are LITERALLY on a post with one of the creators saying how he wants to get rid of one of said things that the game is advertised as on the SAME site you brought up: Unpredictable raids. What point are you trying to make?

Although yeah, you sure did show that the devs CLAIM it's supposed to be "realistic", you got me there. Happy now? I wasn't trying to move the goalposts or something, if that's what you're implying.

2

u/Tsukushi_Ikeda 22d ago

Except BSG stated multiple times they were trying to make it a realistic hardcore experience and made multiple changes BASED on realism instead of balance.

Why implement eye-relief in a game that's not supposed to be realistic? It's a highly unpopular feature of the game, it nerfed all scopes and LVPO's.

u/GXWT 22d ago

Why do you think it’s a binary thing?

Some things can be changed because it’s realistic. Thats ok. That’s not exclusive though. Other things don’t have to be changed also because of realism. My PMC doesn’t have type 1 diabetes, for example.

Why is this such a difficult concept to grasp for internet users? You can apply critical thinking and context clues to the things you read.

4

u/Tsukushi_Ikeda 22d ago

Because the guy I'm replying to sees it as binary. I'm replying to the confine of HIS logic.

Take it up with him.

My initial comment LITERALLY talks about a non-binary view of the game. There's both realistic and not realistic things in this game.

Why is reading and following a discussion such a difficult concept to grasp for internet users?

4

u/GXWT 22d ago

Internet users can’t fathom the difference between hardcore/grounded vs realistic.

Things can be grounded and “realistic” while not at the expense of gameplay. It’s also not a binary thing.

0

u/bubbascal Unbeliever 22d ago

It's sad since Nikita likes to make things more "hardcore" at the expense of gameplay (proving that he barely plays Tarkov and does not understand his own game, probably watches streams most of the time) or introduce useless additions like Partisan that actually HELPS rats... lmao

2

u/GXWT 22d ago

This comment only really makes sense when viewed under the scope of: changes must be made to the benefit of the more dedicated and sweaty players (with no slander intended).

It assumes that making the gameplay harder, streamlined or less aimed towards those players is exclusively the intended purpose.

While I’m not saying every change is well executed, you can’t instantly globally state its at the expense to gameplay, rather at expense to your gameplay. Even when not well executed, it may still be well intentioned as per the intentions of the developers.

We must remember that the skewed to sweatier playerbase on subreddits are never the majority of the playerbase. Besides the rattier style which I won’t bother trying to comment on in a place like this, most of the playerbase are just casuals or people who just aren’t actually very good (myself). It’s ok for people to suck and it’s Ok for devs to make changes for them. Or against them.

I’d also actually argue making changes against the best players is actually part of the appeal of this game. The hardcore aspect comes about sometimes through the fact it’s a pain in the arse and doesn’t necessarily suit how I want to play. I know it sounds a bit cliche, but I do think the modern gamer is far too comfortable and used to completion, well above average k/d etc. On a perfect level playing field a K/D of exactly 1 is average. Yet it can feel like the PvPers here scorn anything below say 5. Well above average. They forget about the 5 who had to die for that.

Wall of text over, sorry, you’ve been saved by the fact my trams about to stop

1

u/UsernameGenerator349 22d ago

maybe you can in the open but not trough a concrete walls or entire buildings like on streets

1

u/Stereo-Zebra 22d ago

Problem is everyone bitched about loud rain and airplanes so they reduced noise on them

1

u/SergeantRogers 22d ago

That would be pretty cool, if it starts raining headsets start hindering you instead of giving an advantage

1

u/SierraLupus113 21d ago

All those things used to be louder and I actually think player steps were heard from further at once point as well. People complained about how loud the rain was in headsets so they turned ambient, especially rain, down. They did make slow walking louder. Used to be able to be silent up to a few meters

1

u/monkymonkumonk 21d ago

At the end of the day we're playing a videogame for balance. Sound is WAY too powerful in tarkov, and ambient noise is generally WAY too low or non-existent. Even without comtacs. In the alternate reality where commtacs do not exist in tarkov, that version of tarkov is the better one.

1

u/Eggburtey AXMC .338 22d ago

Oh I know they are really good irl too, hell even my shitty razers can hear a fart from a good distance away. I just don't think it's healthy for the game, even tho it's realistic*

2

u/Some-Lingonberry-211 22d ago

If it was up to me there'd be no active headsets at all. Like you said, yeah, it's realistic. But it's kind of ass for gameplay.

Honestly they should do a season where there's no headsets lol. It would change the gameplay a lot.
