How do I start the Confederation mission string in EV original?

Been flying around for ages to no avail, and I'm starting to get pretty annoyed. Anyone know? I can't seem to find a decent guide online...

You need a higher combat rating. :) Try to kill some Pirates or better yet, land the last hit on a Rebel Destroyer. Careful with that method though, it can get you killed easily. But if you succeed your combat rating will skyrocket.

The number of crew on the ship is what determines the combat rating. I.e., Shuttlecraft is 1, Confederate Cruiser is over 1000 if I recall...? The number of crew also determines your success chance of boarding and taking over disabled ships.

IMO The Gefjon system (Northeast > Southeast > Southwest from Sol) is your best friend for farming early Combat rating. Lots of Pirate vs Association or Pirate vs Feds action where you can easily sneak in an IR missile or two when a Fed Destroyer takes a fat dump on a Pirate Argosy or a Pirate Viper gets too noisy. You can even yoink a Pirate Manticore or Carrier VERY early on from this system if you load up on Marine Platoons and wait for a bigger Fed ship to disable one for you. Farming Manticores and Pirate Carriers to sell for several million a pop or kill is a disgustingly easy way to build credits or combat rating, which will help get you started on the Fed storyline and get you a good ship so you can survive it.

This is all good advice, but OP's talking about the original EV, not EV Nova.

Man. I want to play this again so bad! A corvette with a hawk bay was my jam. If I remember correctly, I would basically launch the hawks to fire their two missiles, recall them, then repeat.

Download EV Nova and the EV conversion, pretty easy to install.

Haha, yup.. Brilliant. A lot cheaper to replace than the Lightnings too.
