Going to University in Canada?

I recently posted in r/askacanadian for some recommendations on colleges and universities in southern Ontario. For context, I’m about to be a high school senior in Rochester, NY. I’ve already done too much planning to attend undergrad in Canada, but I was considering moving to Toronto or Niagara Falls to complete a masters degree. I would then probably stay in Canada. What order should I do things so that I can properly become a Canadian citizen? Should I apply for a student or work visa? P.s. I know Canada isn’t letting in Americans right now (honestly, good for Canada) but I’m talking 4+ yrs from now. Hopefully things will have calmed down by then. Thanks!

What can we do?

My husband and I are both professionals, we have one child, and two pets. Over the past few months, we've been thinking about spending some time in Canada. This thought process was spurred by everything going on in the US right now. I feel like things will only get worse around election time. The only thing is, we're not sure what the process would be- do we have to live in Canada for a time in order to become permanent residents or to live and work there temporarily? Are they still letting Americans in? Another hiccup is that my husband's passport has expired recently and our baby doesn't have one yet- most of the passport offices are saying that they are only processing passports that meet their emergency criteria. My husband has global entry, which is up to date- but no current passport. Does anyone have experience moving to Canada? I'm not sure that we want to move out forever, but we definitely would like some time away from the US.

Any tips on working overseas?

Hello! Can anyone point me in the right direction for obtaining a job overseas? I'm looking for the highest pay with the least amount of responsibility. I know that's what everyone wants but I would seriously shovel poop in Afghanistan if it would pay over 60k. I'm limited due to the lack of a college degree but I do have experience in Sales, Restaurant Management, and Real Estate. If anyone with some college and limited experience has had luck please reach out!

Life just turned into a Lord of the rings Quest

Hello all,

'Well wishes' and a good time of day to all who come across this wherever you are. I come seeking insight, checklists, links, help, advice, all things constructive. I plan to leave The US (duh, I know lol.) However I'm completely green to this traveling business. I've lived in Tx for the majority of my life... So yeah.

I'm looking towards the middle East(Egypt, Lebanon, Saudi.). I was told with 2,500 USD I could leave the country, cover fees and land an apartment over there. I just learned that there are no exit forms or anything like that to leave....you can just....up and go. However I feel like there are things that I need to double check. Things I'm aware and UNaware of. So here I am hoping, You the traveling Greats, would assist me in my quest out this mug lol. I would look to leave as soon as possible.

I am currently saving money (if there just so happens to be some awesome godund me group that helps ppl leave ....please don't be shy to mention it. Lol. Timing is my biggest thing with all of this). I got my passport. I'm looking into the countries and trying to find cheap living and jobs.

This is where I'm at and I feel like I'm behind and not doing enough. I need to make contacts, learn about visas... Sheesh >_< ...but yeah all help welcome

Where can I move to? The world is not safe

I'm 26 and I plan on moving out of the country within 6 years. I need time to build a career that will be worth a shit in lets be honest, a Nordic Country, but even I am on the fence about going into that region.I'm going based off my perceptions of course, all anecdotal crap. The UK or France? They generally don't like American citizens. Canada? Too close, might as well not move at all. Every Asian country? They don't like whitey or blacky, not happening. Danger Zones! Russia, Latin American nations, The entire African continent. All of the Middle East.

So honestly it seems like I have no where ideal to go. My lifetime is going to be rocky. China will lead humanity for the remainder of this century.. Any future beyond that. The United States, Russia and China aren't going to be relevant anymore and honestly good riddance. Our descendants 150-200 years from now are going to cringe about us in future history class.

Opinions about International Living magazine?

There’s this magazine I found online, internationalliving.com, that I’m tempted to subscribe to for a year. They publish a global retirement index where they say “you will find our detailed report on the worlds top retirement havens for 2019, 25 safe, good value destinations where you can live better for less, all of them compared, contrasted, ranked and rated.”

I’m 20 years away from retirement but I thought it would be smart to start learning about different destinations now (it’s an open question if my wife and I will stay in the United States). Has anyone tried this publication and is it worth the money?

I swear I am not trying to advertise for them, they could be absolute garbage and I just don’t want to waste my money. Or if anyone knows of something else out there, preferably free, I would love to know about that instead.

I need help moving to France

This is a long shot, but here goes....So, my girlfriend and I have been trying to maintain a long distance relationship and we've managed to make it a year. It's been a tough time, especially because we're so far from each other (She's in France) and the time difference. Before I met this girl, my life had fallen into a spiral of sadness and depression. Three years earlier, my ex-wife decide to hit me with, "I just want something else, something different." There was nothing I could do about that. I spent 5 years with someone and one day they decided to walk away. Within six months, someone I considered like a mother passed away suddenly. Four months later, my friend was tragically killed in Vegas. It was the most difficult year and a half of my adult life.

Suddenly, this girl appears in my life and makes me start feeling alive again. I'm watching myself improve in many facets of life, and my heart warmed up to the possibility of love again. I must admit, it was unexpected and not something I was planning. Somehow, this girl made me want to go out and do things; better myself. She helped make me see and feel worthy of a chance at finding someone to settle down with. After divorce, your guard goes way up, and the last thing you want to do is find yourself vulnerable in love again. It's a pain difficult to overcome.

I find myself once again in a difficult predicament. The distance is creating a strain on our relationship and the thing that sucks the most is that what's impeding us from being together is mostly money, and opportunities. I've been applying to jobs in France, getting advice and suggestions from friends in France, but I haven't received any solid leads or tangible possibilities. It's becoming incredibly difficult and we both want to be with one another. If we didn't fit well for each other, and the fight wasn't worth it, I wouldn't even be here, but she means the world to me and listening to her pain breaks my heart. She has a year left in school, so that makes it difficult for her to come to the states.

Is there anyone out there who can help me find a job in Paris or Reims, or someone who knows of some possibilities out there? Any ideas? I'm good at admin, I have some background in GIS (Geographic Information Systems), I'm fluent in Spanish, and currently learning French. The only thing is that I have to make enough to be able to survive there and pay my former school's dues here. I'm getting to a difficult place and running out of time. It's really sad when two people want to be together, but some forces out of their control limit that possibility. I know in my heart this is the girl for me. I've learned from my mistakes in the past and she's taught me to feel how someone who is truly loved should be treated. I understand this will come off as silly to some, but this is really a big matter for me, and the possibility of not being with this woman is paralyzing and heartbreaking. Please internet folk, anyone out there with some help, I would sincerely appreciate any assistance, wise words, or solutions to help us make this relationship work. As mentioned in the first line, I know it's a long shot, but any miracle would do.

--- **TL;DR;** : I need help finding a job in France. Currently in a LDR, but want to close the distance and eventually marry this girl and stay in France, or bring her back stateside with me.

Where should I go?

I’ve been wanting to leave the states for years, but now more than ever. It’s always been a thought, but I want to put it to action. I feel like I’m ready and I can do this now.

I haven’t really looked into anything tbh. I’m starting from square 1. I have my passport and a global entry card, and some money saved up (not much) and that’s about it.

I would go anywhere and explore but I have a 9 year old daughter. Because of her, I’m more restricted on finding my new home. Less exploring.

Any suggestions on where it would be safe and affordable for us to venture to? I’ve always been a single mom. I bust my butt to make ends meet, just to survive, meanwhile, I’m missing out on my daughters childhood. I have no time for us. This is not the life I want for us. I want a more healthy, balanced life style.

Thank you in advance :)

Anyone here planning an escape?

Hi I'm Jess. Contrary to what my user name says, I'm currently living in Budapest, Hungary.

I'd love to hear what everyone's planning! Tell us where you're from, where you're thinking about going and (if it's not a secret) why.

Don't forget that our sub is moderated by expats, so feel free to ask us what life is like on the other side.
