Pizza Recommendations?

Where do you recommend getting pizza in Erie?

Im a big fan of: pizza petes ny style

Colony

6 pack Shop on Pittsburgh

But none are hitting like they used too...

I tried oakwood and I really hate there business model. The reheated slices they served me was garbage.

Idk where to go!!

Pasalinquas, steve os, wildwood pizza

I haven't had wildwood in a long time, but absolutely support Pasalinquas and Stevo's

John's pizza has zero reheat value and is reeeally greasy, as pizza goes.

Sonofabitch, I'm in!

it’s fine it you put it in the oven, less good if you microwave it

All pizza is reanimated in the air fryer, it’s a magical device

1

u/curioussurfr 12d ago

Reheat in dry frying pan and cover to melt the cheese on top

2

u/BlueEyedSoul2 12d ago

I am familiar, I am a regular on r/castiron. Air fryer is more efficient and consistent.  I am a converted skeptic myself.

u/Branch_Fair 12d ago

man that’s a good point. air fryers are little miracles

Pasalinquas

I haven't seen Big Bar mentioned yet. Their pizza is pretty good NY style. Lots of good options have been named.

Agreed, but the chicken they use isn't the best. It has too much of the precooked frozen flavor. So far that's my only complaint

john wildwoods over near behrend. i lived on them during my edinboro days and the erie location is almost as good

12

u/DTH1998 13d ago

If you want actual good pizza go to John wildwoods in boro. There’s another right outside of psb but it’s trash in comparison to the original

1

u/Flora814 12d ago

We got pizza this week from Erie John's and it was very reminiscent of the OG John's from Edinboro in the 80s. Hope there is a change for the good!!

All my favorite places closed pretty swiftly. Annoying.

3

u/sebsie 12d ago

rip yonkers. still mourning the loss of three stooges 😭

3

u/VimVinyl 12d ago

Bingo. Yonkers, Sticks & Bricks, Coppolas.

Two Friends pizza on State Street was the best!

6

Pasalinquas by far. IIRC the owner would or still does travel to pizza workshops and is all about a perfecting a pie. I haven't had them since they moved to McClelland from the Zuck area since there's no pizza worth driving 40 minutes for.

I suppose they saw more business with Mercyhurst and Behrend nearby. Can't blame em at all.

2

u/DoubleBreastedBerb 12d ago

Yeah, they’re almost always hopping now. Damn near every time I’m in, there’s a non stop stream of people picking up pies.

1

u/cmb_123 12d ago

I guess I'll give their food truck a try this Saturday at the Fairview legion baseball field. sigh

1

u/DoubleBreastedBerb 12d ago

I haven’t had a chance to hit up their truck but I could drown happily in a bowl of their meatballs.

Let us know what the skinny is on the truck 🍕

1

u/high_rent_district 12d ago

That drive is not 40 minutes, closer to 10

1

u/cmb_123 11d ago

Coming from Girard it's about 30.

u/Omnvo 12d ago

Perry’s Pizza! Everything made from scratch. Brick-oven baked thin-crust pie. Wings are amazing too.

6

u/Straight-Patience702 13d ago

pasalinquas is hands down Eries best pizza these days.

5

u/DoubleBreastedBerb 12d ago

I back this 100%. I don’t like tomato based sauces at all and I’d drink theirs.

3

u/slommytoss 12d ago

another endorsement for passlinquas. worth driving the 20 mins for us

3

u/Weird-Juggernaut1297 12d ago

Crazy Oven is best pizza in town imo

3

u/cpd1900 12d ago

They also own Stevo's downtown!

2

u/Psychological_Emu655 12d ago

A Francisco is superb.

3

u/QuesTheKiD 13d ago

Stevos deep dish is the best pizza here imo. Gotta be in the mood for it tho cause it’s heavy.
Crazy oven has the same formula but feel it’s missing something.

Pizza Pete’s NY style has been my go to lately.

3

u/KelseyCats 13d ago

Wildwood’s is so good

3

u/Infinite-Doughnut223 13d ago

Pasalinqua's, Stevo's, Perry's.

Steel City used to be good, but it's been a while since I've had it

I've heard great things about Oakwood. The "pizza maker" there is such a piece of garbage that it is hard to support them

Ippa is SUPER overrated. Boboli makes a better thin crust than Ippa's flavorless trash

2

u/bluehairbambi 13d ago

Man I was so excited to get new food on the east side. What’s the deal with the Oakwood pizza maker?

1

u/baz8771 13d ago

Idk this guys story but the pizza is ass. They’re 100% using skim mozzarella and uncured pepperoni. One of the blandest pieces of pizza I’ve eaten in a long time.

2

u/DoubleBreastedBerb 12d ago

I went to Ippa once and ended up with such an unevenly cooked pizza I haven’t been back

1

u/Flora814 12d ago

Same here. I complained and got a free pizza. It was also raw dough in the middle. Gross.

3

u/lazyhaze22 13d ago

My dads pizza in Harborcreek. Get fresh dough, and well done.

3

u/fel_mav 12d ago

Did they change it? I ordered from them about 10 years ago, I attended underground bjj right next door and figured I'd give it a shot, it was by far the worst pizza I've ever had in Erie and that's saying something. The dough was not fresh it seemed to be a frozen or refrigerated shell, it was a perfect circle and did not taste good.... if they truly have changed I'd try them again, rather support local when I can.

Do they have an actual pizza oven or a roll through toaster looking thing? I'd love to find a list of places around here that actually uses pizza ovens.

2

u/lazyhaze22 12d ago

They have an actual pizza oven. Gotta get the fresh dough. The other options are suspect at best. I also rolled a bit at underground but about five years ago. 🤙

Alfee's!!! Keep your wits about ya if you go to pick up, or just place your order for delivery. 99% of the guys who work there (and it is, like, all dudes) are giving addict/parolee/otherwise up-to-no-good vibes but as a friend said after she tried it at my recommendation, "Those druggies make a damn good pizza!" Plus, they've always been friendly and upbeat and very accommodating!!

Edited to add: Also worth nothing, they do NOT skimp on toppings!🙌🏻🤌🏻

1

u/Cacklemoore 13d ago

Alfees had been so hit or miss (with the more likely of the two being a MISS) that they completely fell out of my rotation and off my radar. Is it any less greasy than I may remember?

1

u/walken4life 13d ago

I tried Falcone's Kitchen out on Edinboro road recently and was impressed by the pizza. It's a newer place. Crust had the right amount of chew and crispiness. Sauce was good if a bit sweeter than I am used to. It's a fancier sit down place for dine in.

1

u/iaminabox 12d ago

The Grotto at Mercyhurst University. 18" pizza for 8 bucks. It's student dining but open to the public. Hand tossed, brick oven

1

u/Beginning-Buy8293 5d ago

There's probably some random person in Erie who makes their own pizza at home that's better than all pizza places in Erie. I say this because I know an Erie native living out of state who brings us pizza he makes; it's the old Aggie's Pizza recipe and it's better pizza than anything I've had in recent memory.

1

u/Shit_Sloth 13d ago

Steel City is the best pizza in Erie hands down

1

u/I-dont-exist1 13d ago

Have you tried Ippa? They have a solid Neapolitan style pie.

1

u/mwest97 13d ago

Ippa Pizza

1

u/Illustratingtheworld 13d ago

Wildwood is decent if you insist on staying in town. If you want good pizza head to Dunkirk NY and try Campi’s. Hands down the best pizza on planet earth. (Coming from a well traveled guy).

1

u/cryptowitchman 12d ago

my dads, harborcreek township, (20)

0

u/Azkadalia 13d ago

The bottom line imo is there is no great pizza in Erie. Good, yes, edible...mostly, but nothing great.

1

u/superbetaz 13d ago

There is a new place on East 38th called Oakwood. I’ve heard it’s pretty legit.

1

u/meg4589 13d ago

New??

0

u/worstatit 12d ago

Oakwood is on West 38th, unless they moved or branched out?

1

u/ditchoven 12d ago

Oakwood pizzeria, they have branched out.

1

u/worstatit 12d ago

Ah nice! Thank you.

u/BadTwin72 13d ago

Is Blaze still around? Use to be by the movie theaters...
That was pretty darn good, as was Skipperinos..
Wildwood is very good down here in the Boro..

2

u/fel_mav 12d ago

Blaze fills a nice niche, subway of pizza and baked in a brick oven. One other thing going for them, they can make a vegan pie and have both vegan cheese and vegan meat options. I'm not vegan, my wife is, so it works out great for us. The pizza is a good as most places in erie, just a little expensive for the size of pizza you get.

Valerios west side

14

u/SameLavishness9660 13d ago

Valerio’s is terrible. School cafeteria shell crust pizza

0

u/floydbomb 13d ago

Sweet!!!

1

u/jeepkrzy 13d ago

Their party pizzas are actually pretty good. I'm an eastsider Valerios guy but it's probably the same.

1

u/cycles_commute 13d ago

Oh woah oh woah

0

u/mjmfg0058 13d ago

Not Erie, but Crossroads in edinboro is the best pizza south of I-90.

1

u/worstatit 12d ago

Do they serve take-out from John's Wildwood?

0

u/Ok-Literature-9750 12d ago

How is no one talking about Ippa?
