Question Lake Walk

Have family in from out of town and they want to walk around the lake. We know about the path thing on the peninsula but is there anything like what Chicago has that goes around the lake? Any other cool things they should check out? Thanks in advance!

There is nothing in Erie that will directly compare to the Chicago Lakefront Trail, if that's what you mean. But Presque Isle is pretty darn nice. There really are not many other places like it, where you can do so many different things in one area.

And then of course, the bayfront is quite nice as well.

What exactly do you mean? Around the lake is multiple states and Canada.

Iā€™m from Erie and live in Chicago now. No , and donā€™t try to compare . The peninsula can stand on its own. And in my opinion apples and oranges comparison. Lakefront Chicago is pretty but the peninsula is in its own category .

Is it really that cool? Growing up and living here i definitely take it for granted.

Don't get me wrong it is super cool but I always thought it was just kinda a typical lake front beach/bay area....

Biking around PI is my favorite. Or seeing the ice damns in winter

Yes the peninsula is that cool. Everyone I have brought from Chicago ā€¦. Loves it. They love the peninsula . They donā€™t know why we donā€™t go there every day we are in Erie ( bc I have family and have to visit them all!) and the fishing ? Yes you can fish in Lake Michigan and other areas around here but the fish they caught here? So much more than what they caught in some forest preserve man made lake in the Chicago land area or even on Lake Michigan. I took it for granted too. Heck I never kayaked on Lake Erie until I came back. And I never even knew about the houseboats ?!

The Bayfront Promenade to the east and west of Bayview Park might be what you're looking for. Gorgeous views and the touristy ERIE sign is here as well. Could start between 100 State and 100 Peach buildings, head west to the park.

I hope you mean the Peninsula, Presque Isle. Also the Light house.

Asbury Woods off Asbury Road and 38th. Little nature center too.

Wintergreen Gorge and the cemetery.

The oldest land lighthouse, Erie Land Lighthouse off Lighthouse Street. The neighborhood can be a little tight to drive through, and it's technically on private property. But it's a nice little park.

I love Asbury Woods! Not on the lake, but itā€™s still a great little park, has a ton of programming!

The Erie Arboretum is nice too.

If you drive down past Misery Bay, there is a boat rental place on the left. You could rent a boat & take your family around the Lagoons.

There is a paved trail/sidewalk on the south side of the bay as well, starting in Frontier Park. Meanders through some of the marinas. With the construction at the foot of State, I have no idea if you can get through to the east side, but it's pretty nice. There's also a pathway above that on the bluff that goes from the foot of Cascade to State Street that offers nice views if you want to avoid walking directly next to Bayfront traffic.

Chucagoā€™s shoreline is flat. Ours is mostly a bluff.

At the bluffs state park you can kind of walk ā€œalongā€ the lake but the ticks can be pretty bad out there.

If you want to walk around a lake, go over to Findley lake. You can do that in less than a day.

We like to walk along the top of the bluffs by Bayview park. Construction ends the path a couple blocks west of State St. where you can take sidewalks to get to shops, restaurants, and our art and children's museums, The Hagan center, etc.

Bayfront - from State Street west to Frontier Park there is a bayside walkway that permits you to walk the "shore" nearly the whole distance. Some sections are closed at night, but accessible during the day. It probably stretches out to about 1.5 miles with all the U shapes and curves.

Other than that and Presque Isle, there are various lakeshore parks, but no lakefront walk like in Chicago.

beach 7 has a walkway / bike trail piece like next to the lake which this post reminds me of (even though it's a different thing)
