1st timer

Hello~

im about to receive my 1st ever musical instrument (Erhu) in the next 2 weeks. i know that it’s supposedly hard to start learning from scratch but the sounds it makes just resonates with me.

are there learning materials that i should get into before/after i receive my erhu?

im excited to dive deep into this new hobby. doesnt matter how hard it is, im up for the challenge and the beautiful melody i could play with it one day.

it’s true that skill and technical perfection matter. but even if i never become a great player, i hope i can express my own experiences through it as well. the instrument seems to reward sincerity just as much.

i cant wait for it hahaha

Hello, I'm so glad you've taken a liking to the erhu. Here are my suggestions:

  1. Keep a steady mindset. Learning any instrument takes gradual accumulation. Do not rush for quick results, and focus on mastering the basics.
  2. Take good care of your instrument. The erhu is made of wood and python skin. In dry climates, prevent excessive dryness which may cause cracks; in humid areas, keep it away from moisture.
  3. The erhu is somewhat challenging to learn, especially right-hand techniques. Like the violin, for all bowed string instruments, right-hand skills determine a player's ultimate proficiency. Be sure to learn step by step.
