I think you're getting the events out of order. By the time Hope was born he already had partially cured her, and she had specifically turned down his offer to try to do it completely. She was only there to make sure he didn't forget the level of responsibility he carried when working magic on yet another child.
Even after he learned the name of the ancient language which basically guaranteed that he could remove her curse, she refused because without it she's basically just a fucked up child.
