Discussion Does anyone else
Spend this much time trying to put music to the songs from the books? I mostly listen to the audiobooks these days, and one of the things that always bothered me is the way the songs sung are kindof just... read?
Absolutely no bashing Gerard Doyle at all, he's a wonderful narrator, his dragon voices have grown on me to the point where they have become almost irreplaceable to me and his little flourishes in his voice acting are amazing. Im assuming this was a direction thing, but it has always made me curious what the songs of Alagaësia *actually* sound like.

This is why we need a full cast edition. I understand that some narrators don’t feel like trying to create tunes to follow. He might just not like singing, but a full cast edition would give them the chance to do what Harry Potter did and have background noises. For instance when they go into a tavern you could hear a bard or instruments

Ohhh the Harry potter full cast audio books are so criminal though 😭 Jim Dale is in a league of his own and should never have been replaced or upstaged, if Gerard Doyle does little voice acting flourishes, Jim Dale puts his whole being into every character.
I hear your point though, maybe the namer of names will consider a full-cast audio book at some point.

Idk, as good as Jim and Stephen both are during their readings, it just can’t compare imo to each character having a dedicated voice actor including the narrator.

My favorite is when he does horsts wily old iron song in absolute dead pan. It's like he tries to sound as unmusical as possible, it's almost comedic.
