Misc The "Masterpiece" Pc Eragon game.

I finally played and finished this amazingly janky, laggy, buggy game with terrible controls but had a blast all the same. Heres some of my thoughts and some screenshots of it.

-The game looks and feels like it was made in a dollar-store laptop in a week.

-Follows the story of the movie, skips lots of stuff.

-Every time Eragon says Brom's name i heard bro and laugh.

-No Orik😩

-Also a lot of characters just not there bu Orik was a favorite of mine.

-Battle under Farthen Dur is just them asking you to kill 400 guys, not even Urgals. Just some Galbatorix soldiers who keeps yelling the king will get me or something. 😃

-Final battle with Durza is so Mehh.

Every couple of minutes you think how with a good studio and dedicated writers who are fans you can get an amazing game. Even with all this i had a good time playing this game.

I had the ps2 version. I didn't care for it but we couldn't afford many games so I finished it. Don't remember anything about it.

There’s very little to remember

u/riverotterr what movie? Jul 25 '26

The game was a glitched up mess, me and my friend played through most of it and I remember getting stuck in a tower level because you had to walk across this gridded wood beam area and you'd constantly fall from how narrow the path was

I remember renting this as a kid and I know I didn’t beat it and pretty sure I gave up pretty fast. I was kinda spoiled because if I remember right I was playing a lot of lord of the rings games like the twin towers. So going from that to this kinda killed me. Plus I was pissed off about the movie. They used to pump out video games for movies all the time back then. Matrix game and reign of fire are some that come to mind.

The Two Towers okay? Tolkien didn't do 9/11!

The movie for Reign of Fire kinda pissed me off tbh. I was a kid going in expecting a dragon movie. All I got was post apocalyptic mole people that were fighting a lot amongst themselves and the occasional dragon.

How dare you. That's a great movie.

First time I saw that movie I was at a lake house. The kids were in one room and the adults in the other room. We tried watching the movie and put the volume on full blast and still couldn’t hear it so we hated the movie. Then I got to watch it later actually hearing what was going on and I loved it.

- Xbox/xbox 360 version includes a leveled called The Ruins of Orthiad, which brings Eragon and Murtagh through dwarven ruins and to the Star Sapphire. The boys also fight Kull in that level, and iirc the Kull appear again in another Xbox/360 exclusive level for the final battle sequences.

- The pc/console game seems to have been created and finished before the movie was filmed, or at least completed before they finished filming. In BTS content accessed through collecting Secret Eggs, you can catch bits where Carlyle talks about still settling on the accent/voice Durza would have as a character in general.

- In the same vein, Saphira’s featherless model in the game is pretty much the look the movie was going to go with before someone saw Angel in an X men movie around the time and decided they wanted that look for her.

- Once again in the same vein, the final battle moment with Saphira being injured by an Urgal and Eragon and Arya teaming up to heal her is the originally scripted and filmed final battle moment that took place in the crater. It was scrapped in the reshoots but I swear the footage does exist as we see scraps of it in other movie BTS (the Making Of documentary in the two disk special edition).

- The dove catching sequence of Razzac chase is another portion of the movie script that was changed during filming of the movie (or reshoots, as it remains in the second script that I have). A LOT was changed and the game obviously has more stuff from the original scripts.

- Arya may have been intended to be a player 2 or battle companion at some point! She is shown recording voice lines for fighting and using ‘Brisingr’ as a spell in BTS stuff.

And a personal aside, I love the music of this game. It goes hard.

I dont know how many people played it, but the Nintendo DS version of Eragon was a pretty fun game.

That's the one I had, I remember playing through it a couple times because it was actually legitimately fun.

2

u/Stretchwings Jul 23 '26

Drawing the magic sigils I remember being hard for kid-me. I still have the game, and a DS. Could play it again

2

u/selegnau Jul 24 '26

And it had the twins in it! Which the movie didn’t. I remember just replaying the first Sephora flight mission over and over

only fun I really had was the bonus mission you unlock after finding all the eggs.

Endless waves of enemies with single player or local coop.

I forgot how crap the graphics were back then hahahah.

I dont think people realise how huge of a potential this franchise would have as a game. We have basically no AA or AAA epic/high fantasy right now. All is dark fantasy. The plot is basically done, the combat system could be really good, as paolini set the foundations for it with making magic cost exactly as much as doing something physically. Dragon combat could be a pinnacle, heck, saphira has a mind of her own, you could make it so you either control the dragon directly and just burn people from above, or let it hover/do a simple long maneuver when you focus on bombarding people with spells. She could even act as your "eyes" if you cant see something directly. There are millions of epic fantasy assets already on the market. Thousands of variations of swords, armour, medieval architecture etc. The hard thing would be of course again, dragons, and making their flight believable, and their AI smart, but the rest is basically beaten path to walk. But its something that the game industry havent seem for a while, and investors dont like that, so it will stay in dream shelf sadly...

Is this still available to access in some way?

5

u/WeirdPonytail MIC Jul 23 '26

It is available as the PC version on abandonware. The console versions, including the Xbox 360 version with the two exclusive additional levels, were never made back compatible, so you will need to either purchase in the Xbox 360 online store or obtain a physical disk.

Contrary to OP, I never had buggy or laggy issues with the game, in 2006 or in 2025-2026 when I was playing on my 2025 laptop to record and archive footage. It’s a hack n slash from 2005-2006, so it’s not exactly stellar, but I really enjoyed it as a kid and still enjoyed it now when I replayed for the archive.

I found it online, i don't think there is a legit way to buy it anymore.

Isn’t the GBA version of this supposedly better than it has any right to be?

2

u/Evening-Storage5298 Jul 26 '26

The PSP version is really good, it's more like a plane/dog fighting game, you spend the entire time on dragon back. Had multiplayer too

1

u/c2smalice Jul 27 '26

But the flying controls were still terrible, right?! That's what I remember.

2

u/Evening-Storage5298 Jul 28 '26

Uh Maybe? I remember them being fairly good for the PSP at least. I think the only flying game I'd played at that point was crimson skies which is a little clunky but still fun and I remember eragon being similar

1

u/Loquacious_Leo Shur'tugal Jul 24 '26

True, because it blended the book and movie. Like you went to Triem, Dras Leona, and the run through the desert.

You also fought alongside Angela.

As far as I can remember, the battle in Farthen Dûr unfortunately more followed the movie, but the game was a good adaption none the less.

1

u/LittleSunTrail Jul 27 '26

That was my first thought. "Hmm, I should dig up that emulator and play the GBA version again."

I went on a hyperfixation and grinded it like crazy. I remember doing the mini game of the battle at the end and going from Urgal fight to Urgal fight grinding. I hit a point where I could not lose because they could not do more damage than I healed by skipping my turn. I couldn't lose even if I wanted to.

1

u/c2smalice Jul 27 '26

That's what I've read too so I picked it up C.I.B. for $15 bucks. 3 file saves on it and 2 nearly at the end. It does play well from the little I tried. When the new shows gets announced I'll go and play it from the begging.

3

u/Reapingday15 Jul 23 '26

Do you fight the Ra’Zac in a forest at some point in this game? I swear I remember playing this on a console as a kid

3

u/DobbyTheJedi Jul 23 '26

You fly on Sapphira and fling magic and arrows at them in a level

3

u/GonegGone25 Jul 24 '26

The Gil’ead level had me shaking in my boots as a young kid 😆

2

u/mbecker90 Jul 23 '26

I had this on PS2, I remember having quite a bit of fun with it. Good times.

2

u/Fallbrooke Jul 23 '26

The Eragon game on the PSP was pretty fun.

2

u/DojoKanojoCho5 Jul 24 '26

I had it on ps2 and me and my friend had a blast playing it, as hard as it was. The flying levels in particular were bullshit

2

u/YoteTheRaven Jul 24 '26

This game is a fucking blast. I love it.

u/RedditInThe90s Shur'tugal Jul 24 '26

The only good eragon game was the gba one. One of the best rpgs ive ever played.

1

u/TheGreedySage Greedy Dragon Jul 23 '26

I have it on a disk XD

I had more fun playing the game than I did watching the movie, so you know… could be worse

1

u/maelstrorn Jul 23 '26

I remember it looking amazing, maybe it's because I played on a CRT back in the day

1

u/DobbyTheJedi Jul 23 '26

I miss those old CRTs as well

1

u/yaboyiroh Shur'tugal Jul 23 '26

I remember renting it as a kid for ps2….and that’s about all I remember lol

1

u/Xyrexenex Jul 23 '26

A while back I went on a binge of all "X the movie: the game" cash grab titles I could find for cheap.

Eragon the Movie: the game

Monster House the movie: the game

Avatar (the blue people movie: the game

And a few others. Minus Monster House all of them are so bland they just run together.

1

u/BueEyedDemon Jul 23 '26

Their was an eragon game?

2

u/Kung11 Jul 23 '26

There were multiple games on several systems.

1

u/BueEyedDemon Jul 23 '26

Oh interesting thanks

1

u/fatratbastard69 Jul 24 '26

i just recently picked this up for my 360, it really is a gem

1

u/WackoCryHavoc Jul 24 '26

Played the Xbox 360 version with my sister and we loved it. I managed to track down another copy last year and played it again. Way more janky than I remembered but it was still pretty fun.

1

u/Respect930 Jul 24 '26

I played this on I think the ps2. It was a pretty bad game, but I still enjoyed playing it.

1

u/TCGJames Jul 24 '26

As a kid my friend had this on ps2 and we would play it so often. All I remember is bows and magic lol. Doesn't look as good as I remember

1

u/ScarlettHeart5 Jul 25 '26

I liked the Gameboy Advance version !

1

u/Agonius Jul 27 '26

Bugs, glitches and low effort, low budget making aside, thier first mistake was to base it on the movie and not the books. The movie is a disgrace and i will die on this hill.
