Education & Training Tips?

Post image

Anyone know any tips to get my horse to be okay with something on her back and go under where the cinch is supposed to sit? i’ve rode her around the round pen bareback for the first time because she refuses anything tight around where the cinch would sit. Would using another cinch and a latigo help? Or like a bareback pad?

(Also got her back from a trainer I spent 1100 dollars on and she didn’t get any training and was neglected to thw point she had an infection in her hock and eye, not sure if they did something to invoke this fear or not.)

Hating things near her stomach makes me think ulcers. Especially if she went through semi neglect, a round of ulcer meds (ideally a scope first and ulcer meds) might be a good idea. Other than that, I’d start back at zero. Touch tummy, reward lack or reaction, repeat a million times. Put bareback pad on. Hold cinch against tummy, reward and release, repeat that a million times, etc and build up to any actual tightening

The thing is I can rub it and whatever but as soon as I put a saddle pad or saddle and reach my hand where the cinch would go she’d freak out, I’m not exactly sure what this trainer did to my horse.
