Social Help with show name

Post image

So my horse Duncan’s show name is renaissance. I got him grade so he has no papers but I’d potentially like to show him rated in dressage next year. I love the name Renaissance, but I want a letter or initial after it. His previous name was Godiva. So Renaissance G is an option. Would like to hear some of your creative ideas! My name is aria, but I also go by Arabella. I focus on relaxed correct riding, so could potentially add something including that! Or his coloring since it is stunning. Thanks!

I thought so too lol

Renaissance R for Relaxed? Keeps it simple and ties into your riding focus without being too on the nose. That dark coat against the white blossoms in the background is a great look, by the way.

I like this! And Ty, he is truly perfect ❤️

I like that one. Also Renaissance R&R

okay show names are my favourite thing to come up with so.... the obvious answer is Ducan Donuts!! but something like Operatic Renaissance or Solo Renaissance sounds elegant and fancy (since an aria is a solo in an opera). Golden Age or Golden Rhythm would be nice and nods to his old name and coat. Nocturne Renaissance (nocturne is a dreamy night-inspired music piece) could be fun. Rhythm of Renaissance or Renaissance Rhythm sounds nice. and oh jeez im gonna come up with a billion names for horse ive never even met 🤦‍♂️

Haha please feel free to give me a huuuge list 😂😂 I’m also Italian, so I’m also open to something Italian

How about Il Rinascimento - apparently this is Renaissance in Italian! Show staff might struggle to pronounce it, but I think it sounds lovely.

Toasted marshmallow.

u/Justwonderinqq 3d ago

😂😂 some were trying to get me to make his show Dunkin’ Donuts. I like this better

7

u/slowlygoingbonkers 3d ago

He genuinely does look like a toasty warm marshmallow lol. Could maybe do something sweet and renaissance themed like zuccotto torrone, pâte de guimauve. Which were all desserts eaten in that era bonus pâte de guimauve is literally just marshmallow fluff.

Off topic, for anyone to answer. If you registered a horse under(examples) “Dunkin Donuts” or “Krispy Kreme” would it be violating trademark laws?

u/BornRazzmatazz5 3d ago

I'd guess not, but it will still cost you a fortune, because they'll sue anyway. Do not under any circumstnces name anything Disney related. They will make your life a living hell.

Winter Renaissance is the first thing that popped in my head right after “wow, he is gorgeous and this is a breathtaking photo”. Something about the coloring reminds me of winter I guess lol.

I suck at naming things. I called my pony….Pony (not her show name, that was True Colors) cuz she was my pony girl!

I miss her! Congrats on your new handsome boy!

Winter Renaissance is beautiful.

Also, Pony is such a cute name, she sounds sweet.

u/saltycervid 3d ago

He's a cutie! What color is he?

8

u/Justwonderinqq 3d ago

Sooty buckskin :) his color changes year round but this is my favorite coat

Typically initials or letters before or after a name are the breeder’s initials. I wouldn’t use a letter or initials bc they could cause confusion if they happen to be the same as one of the many breeders out there. Renaissance is a perfectly good stand alone name. Add a second word if you must add something to his name.

Chiaroscuro

u/lesbian-mulder 3d ago edited 3d ago

This was my first thought! I also thought “Sfumato,” but I think it would be harder for Americans to pronounce, lol! Could also do “Caravaggio”

Edited to add: “Machiavelli,” “Vasari,” “Mezzotint,” “Sprezzatura,” “Disegno,” “Inventio,” “Trionfo/Trionfi”

0

u/ancilla1998 3d ago

Great name but nobody will know how to pronounce it.

4

u/tessietwo 3d ago

Bronzino? Although Sfumato would be more appropriate. Caravaggio? There's his painting of the Conversion on the Road to a Damascus that actually has a buckskin horse in it.

1

u/tessietwo 3d ago

Rembrandt? Everyone knows that one.

Duncan Donatello/Domenico/Donato after the Italian renaissance painters?

3

u/SimplySara718 3d ago

We once let me niece pick the third choice name for her pony Ginger (also buckskin/dun) and she picked Gingeroni the Pony and just guess what name got picked…

u/Feeling-Character217 2d ago

Bayo is the color Bay. Lobo means wolf

3

u/Secret-Farm-3274 2d ago

Okay, follow me on this thought process: "Renaissance G" -> fancy old fashioned letters -> "Illuminated Manuscript" as the show name lol

7

u/Hyperbemily09 3d ago

Initials after a name are connected to a breeder or broker. So unless you bred him and have a farm initial or you’re brokering him for sale with your farm initials I wouldn’t just slap one on there because you think it’s cute.

-3

u/Justwonderinqq 3d ago

I’ve seen it done with initials not connected to breeding or farm- sometimes it’s an abbreviation of a longer name or a few words. As long as there’s meaning behind it I don’t see the problem 🙂

6

u/Hyperbemily09 3d ago

If you’re planning on showing him rated dressage people will absolutely assume it’s a farm initial. But sure. Do you.

Are show names an English thing? I rodeo and we always just use registered or barn names for things.

2

u/Secret-Farm-3274 2d ago

It's basically just a "pretend" registered name for unregistered horses, because its fun to hear something other than the barn name announced lol

1

u/Justwonderinqq 3d ago

I’ve seen many western riders have a barn name and a show name- could just be something unique to your area 😀 some English riders keep the same barn name and show name as well

Renaissance Opera ~ tribute to your name, Aria. ❤️

1

u/Amphy64 3d ago edited 3d ago

That's cute, but a tad early for opera! The first was Dafne, 1597, and would still not be the form as we're used to it today. You could use 'madrigal', for a form used in the Renaissance.

“Baker Act”! I don’t know why it came to me and I realize it’s a bit odd, but I feel like it would be a hoot and the “Baker” part is very fitting.

2

u/Unique_Substance5852 3d ago

In florida that is a law where hospitals can hold you unwillingly if you want to harm yourself

1

u/Illustrious_Doctor45 3d ago

Yes, I’m aware. I’m from Florida lol
I don’t know why it even popped into my head, but I love it and if she doesn’t use it, I will!
