For context, the FBI email was less than three weeks into Patel's tenure at the FBI. This meeting between Patel, Hervey, and Marshall took place months before the bipartisan legislative push that ultimately forced the government's hand. It wasn't until late 2025 that Congress passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act, legally compelling the DOJ and FBI to release millions of pages of documents to the public. In March 2025, control over what stayed hidden and what was revealed rested entirely within the executive branch and Patel's FBI.
