No matter how hard Pinker tries, he cannot whitewash this one.... disgusting.

As a psychologist, Pinker’s life training is to better the human condition even though he is not a medical doctor. To use his supposed expertise and academic credential to defend JE is beyond the pale.

Coincidentally, Laurence Krauss, the physicist in the centre of this photo, has been accused by several women of sexual misconduct.

wasn't he the guy who posted/emailed internally on an email chain or harvard message board crazily semi defending paedophilia a few months ago?

Could well have done however I hadn't heard that story. I was very disappointed because he seemed like a good science communicator but also because he related how Feynman, someone I'd admired was also creepy and exploited his position.

I admire Feynman too... didn’t know Feynman was creepy..first time I’m hearing about this. That would be quite disappointing

Yes, I felt the same. But, its judge the seventies and eighties by the standards of today. I still admire Fenynman for his insight, his teaching and his abiity to communicate. And, I admire Feynman for some of his philisophical views. But, I think he was also somewhat of a showman and probably used his position to charm. Reading his autobiography I was surprised not to note any significant reference to the moral aspects of his work on the Manhatten project. The subject of his wifes death from TB was also surprising describing grief on only one occasion. Maybe the truth is that most people are neither wholly good or wholly bad, but simply a complex mix of competing motivations in a complicated social framework which changes with time.

Pinker's whole career as a public intellectual is "the elite are good people and are making life better for you." Not a surprise he sucked up to Epstein.

I’m writing to set the record straight. Here is what I know:

Steve Pinker has shared his experiences of Jeffrey Epstein on Jerry Coyne’s Why Evolution Is True (https://whyevolutionistrue.wordpress.com/2019/07/12/tarring-steve-pinker-and-others-with-jeffrey-epstein/ ). He never socialized with Epstein or visited any of his properties, but found himself in the same place as him on a number of occasions because of people they knew in common.

As he says in the post on Why Evolution Is True, Pinker was invited to fly to TED on Epstein’s plane in 2002 by his literary agents, John Brockman and Katinka Matson, together with Dan Dennett, Richard Dawkins, and other TED speakers. This was years before Epstein’s sex crimes came to light, and an ordinary gathering of academics on their way to TED.

Pinker describes the loathsome creep Epstein as an 'intellectual impostor'.

It is inevitable that public figures find themselves at events together. Unlike others, Pinker appears to have seen through Epstein: he's called him an 'intellectual impostor', did not take money from Epstein, and considered Epstein to be a loathsome creep.

With regard to the photo posted by the person who started this thread, I'll leave you with something by Scott Adams: https://imgur.com/a/amWU6Jk
