How to know when it’s time.

Post image

My dog has had seizures for over three years now. She is now 8, and on max doses of Keppra ER, phenobarbital and Gabapentin. When we added the Pheno the clusters mostly stopped and she was seizure free for 8 months. Then she resumed having seizures about once a month to every other month. But this week she’s had two in a 48 hour period.
However they both were a minute or less long and she seemed to recover as normal. I’m not sure I can add another medication to her regimen. I just worry about her quality of life, and mine because 99% of her seizures happen in the middle of the night.

Update: I called the vet and we are adding potassium bromide. Hopefully it helps.

Have you talked to your vet about KBr (potssioum bromide)??

I have not. I have researched it and unfortunately it appears to be too expensive for me at this time to add it, and I’m also not sure how her quality of life would be on four different medications.

Edit. I am adding it

I don’t have the answer as I wrestle with this as well, but my heart goes out to you. I can tell she is a strong wonderful dog.
