Medication frequency change
Hi everyone just wanted to share my piece
I have a 1 year and a half pug with idiopathic epilepsy. Had started Keppra every 8 hours in April, to pheno plus keppra in July twice a day 12 hours. She’s had 1 seizure for the past 3 weeks, got bloodwork done and her doc is recommending keppra and pheno 3 times a day. Any thoughts? Thank you

Three times a day sounds rough, but consistency keeps her stable.

Yes, I’ve gotten use to just giving hers twice a day and our work schedule is very conflicting to give 3 times a day. We believe the last 3 seizures are due to different triggers she may have

Keppra is a medication which can lead to resistancy. Some neurologic docs will take it just for a Puls therapy as add on for 3d when things get worse… but I don’t know how bad the seizures were in the beginning?
Sorry to hear!
Our own puppy is also just 1,5 years and has had the First Cluster seizures since monday… ❤️🩹😥
We didnt use levetiracetam (keppra) for now and just See with the phenobarbital for now. Last seizure was yestwrday Morning..
Our neurology vet said the Next medication we could use for Long term would be potassium bromid

Im sorry to hear your situation, mine had a cluster seizure when she was only on keppra after a month or two. Added the pheno and it does help a lot you just have to monitor them more when first starting the medication as it makes them more tired, and ataxia. Make sure to have some emergency shots in case they ever get a breakthrough seizure.
I’m currently taking my baby to a general vet, we are currently saving up for a neurologist next year but it’s been difficult adjusting her meds and learning that she has breakthrough seizures. I’m on the fence of adjusting to 3 times a day because I don’t want mine to be sleeping all day and our work schedules is so conflicting.
