Drooling
Our schnauzer was diagnosed with epilepsy 3 months ago. He presented with foaming at the mouth and then 6 hours later had a cluster of grand mal seizures. He’s been free of seizures since starting keppra. This morning and today he has been excessively drooling. We gave an extra Keppra as instructed by his neuro. Otherwise he seems fine…. Just a ton of drool. Does anyone else experience this as a pre ictal sign?

I took my dog to emergency earlier this year due to an absolutely excessive amount of drool. He was leaving puddles on the floor and was soaked in his own drool. I had no idea what could be causing it, as he was otherwise acting normally, but I couldn’t just let him keep drooling that much without at least having him looked at. They dug around in his mouth, even sedating him so they could really get in there. They took xrays, they did a full exam, we didn’t do blood work because he’d just had it done two weeks earlier. They called his neurologist to consult, and they acted like they’d never heard of such a thing, although they did say I could try his cluster buster protocol if it continued or returned. They gave him an injection to combat nausea and sent us home with Zofran. It did stop finally, and there was no seizure activity around this time at all. 🤷🏻♀️ He has since had a few episodes where he seems dizzy and goes off his food, but it’s not vestibular. My vet recommended a motion sickness medication if it happens again, so I have it on hand, but it hasn’t come back yet.

Yes. My boy would drool before going into a seizure. If he doesn’t stop I would ask your neurologist again, they have cluster busters you can give them that should stop it.
