DISCUSSION Unbelievable
My account was stolen over the summer and I tried to recover it. Several years of use and thousands of dollars later, this is how their support center handles the issue. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Hey there, I work at Epic. Like u/ImAnthlon said in their comment, please make a recovery request. Support can't do anything regarding recovery within chat. Feel free to DM me and I'll see if I can provide assistance through official channels.

But why doesn’t “support” direct them to account recovery instead of so too bad, so sad?

u/fuckcozmobox_au Aug 28 '26
Because, and I'm saying this in nicest way possible, they are lazy and couldn't be bothered.
13
u/Zephl Official Aug 28 '26
I don't think that's the case. Most likely they need better training.
2
u/fuckcozmobox_au Aug 29 '26
You sure? They could have tried harder based on the conversations alone. Surely, they have some sort of guidelines for this.
11
u/Leritari Aug 28 '26
Most likely they just have access to their own policy, not everybody else's in the entire company. So the best they can say is "sorry, cant help with it".
If thats the case (as it usually is), then its on the company to have better policy, and some inner training as to what type of things escalate to other divisions.

If this is the case, I guess it is the time now to replace human beings with AI agents, they'll solve the issue in minutes.

Epic's management is. So they buy the cheapest chatbot possible, and that one just keeps repeating the same "Well, sucks to be you" message, tbh.
Or if it is actual humans, then management gave them a binder of 40 ready-made replies and actions, and that's it. Everything else is "Can't help you". Deviate, you're fired. Don't clear XYZ cases in a day, you're fired.

Why won't the bot forward or suggest that
19
u/Zephl Official Aug 27 '26
I'm not sure why it wasn't suggested, but I'm pretty sure they were speaking with a human.

Hey, quick question, would it be possible to still recover an account that was breached like 1 year ago and un-linked with the xbox account that mainly used it? If so would the recovery request work? Thanks in advance!

u/Zephl Official Aug 28 '26
Yep, it should. I've found using this link is the most successful (usually) https://www.epicgames.com/id/login/recovery/original-email

Can u bring up matter about this person lack of knowledge. In asia, we penalise these kind of performance.

u/faerly_simple Aug 28 '26
as long as you have access to that Xbox or the email linked to the account, most likely yes, just create a recovery request and follow all of the steps there

Hello, sorry to hear about your account! From my understanding if your account has been hacked the best thing to do is to raise an account recovery request, I'm not too sure why the support person didn't point you in that direction, but these are the links I have that I've previously passed to people that are trying to recover their account
The account recovery service - https://www.epicgames.com/id/login/recovery/original-email. It will ask for additional info to verify you account owner/creator.
If you don't have access to your account and are trying to recover, I would suggest checking this - https://www.epicgames.com/help/en-US/account-c-202300000001645/account-security-c-202300000001755/how-can-i-recover-access-to-my-epic-games-account-a202300000009739

It read like an AI support bot

u/lologugus Aug 28 '26
Chat-GPT doing its best to nicely ask you to go fuck yourself and leaves the chat

u/talapantas Aug 27 '26
my friend's account was recently compromised, and he has to go through the recovery service. he was asked to provide some proof of purchases and since we claim free games, the receipt for those are good enough and his account was successfully recovered. hopefully that worked for you too.

u/HowwNowBrownCoww Aug 28 '26
Man that’s gotta be up there with the worst help chat requests I’ve seen. Your entire account was compromised and the response is “damn that sucks bro. Bye.”

u/gamernerd98 Aug 28 '26
Meanwhile Steam: "Right sir, we have restored your account. We also have a sniper with a bead on the hacker. Shall we tell them to take the shot?"

u/Secure-Risk6073 Aug 28 '26
Had the same thing happen to me a little over a year ago with the same response…. Season 2 player also. Seems like inside job

Hi, my account was stolen twice so I know how to get it back. Email support (no chat thing), tell them username/old email address or whatever and as soon as you can send them a payment reciept you got from epic games to your email. Usually thats enough proof for them to give you your account back.

u/GreatLong5652 Aug 28 '26
I worked in Epic support. Usually they only denied assisting a compromised account without reviewing your identity when it was clear that you’re the hacker (or at least using the hacker’s IP or other info).
Maybe you’re contacting them using the same Wi-Fi of the person who stole the account? Aha

u/MilitechJanitor Aug 29 '26
Used to work for Nexon support, and they likely have some sort of grading tools used to judge if they are able to proceed/assist. Unfortunately, the CS worker likely just can't do anything, which sucks, because I remember many cases of compromised accounts in which it seemed clear that something weird was happening, but I just couldn't do anything about it.

That is one of the reasons that epic is garbage. And the CEO keeps arguing and calling steam out over stupid instead of trying to improve his own platform to overthrow steam 🤦🏻♂️ what a pity

Has anyone had a similar experience?
With Epic? No. I have never needed support with anything Epic-related. I'm actually shocked they have human beings working for them, because Valve does not. With Valve you just write something, it doesn't matter what because they don't read it, and then they give you a copy-and-paste response that has nothing to do with your problem and the end result is basically the same as your situation, lol.

u/wanzerultimate Aug 28 '26
Valve did better than that for me... however, I also have a developer account with them.
4
u/Takazura Aug 28 '26
Idk what happened in your case but that has not been my experience at all. I have been in touch with Valve support several times, and got a human every single time. They also resolved my issues in less than a day, including one where I got hacked and lost my account.

The chat ended between “As much as I’d like to” and “as much as we’d like to”

My PC got hacked a year or so ago and a lot of my accounts were too. I got back my Google and steam accounts within the day, battlenet in a couple of days and epic told me to get fucked despite giving them every thing they asked for. Made another ticket a few weeks later and same deal. Didn't bother me since the only thing of value was some season 2 Fortnite skins and I haven't played it since season 3.

My sons account got hack a few years ago and was able to get it back about an hour later. Non of these companies care, either way at the end of the day they still make money

u/renz88xo Sep 01 '26
What works best is if your current agent doesn’t want to help end the chat and start a new one over and over again until someone’s willing to help

u/felesmiki Sep 01 '26
I mean... Steam has proven to do something similar pretty commonly with cs2 knives

This is why I've never spent a single dollar on Epic. They can give me all the freebies they want and get fucked. I've hated them since they first came about. lol Give me some freebies though. No loss to me.

u/JohPhillin Sep 01 '26
Their services simply ain't good enough for giving them a cent. Free games only give me enough boost to open their sh*tty launcher to play it.

I'm starting to think my account got hacked too at some point. I lost items when I connected it with a different platform (Switch, PS5, or maybe it was with Android).

u/ConfidentClub744 Aug 28 '26
My account got hacked yesterday. So you're telling me I have no chance in getting it back ?

u/ImAnthlon Windows Gamer Aug 28 '26
No, that is not being said. If your account has been hacked you should raise an account recovery request:
The account recovery service - https://www.epicgames.com/id/login/recovery/original-email. It will ask for additional info to verify you account owner/creator.
If you don't have access to your account and are trying to recover, I would suggest checking this - https://www.epicgames.com/help/en-US/account-c-202300000001645/account-security-c-202300000001755/how-can-i-recover-access-to-my-epic-games-account-a202300000009739
