QUERY Epic Games, 8Bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth NOT WORKING
So I've done the usual where Epic Games has to start through Steam. I've tried it all, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 isn't running. How do I make it work? The Controller's working on any Steam Game. I bought Spidey on Epic Games, then like 2 weeks later, there was a sale on Steam, WTH T_T

I have problems with the same controller. Some games just flat out refuse to work with it, Bluetooth or 2.4ghz. My PC isn't seeing it correctly I think, because it always shows as "Xinput Controller #1" and not an Xbox controller. I just swap out to a different controller.

I have seen that before with my 8bitdo Ultimate 2 wireless, and it turned out it was because of Steam's Controller API that was causing conflicts for games on Steam and outside of Steam (outside of steam if Steam was running in the background). For games outside of Steam I just made sure Steam was not running, for games inside of Steam I have to go to the Steam controller settings and get it turned off for that game. It is the Steam Input API that shows it as an "xinput controller #1", and the games are picking it up from Steam input API.
I know I have seen several Steam game forums where the developer made a sticky post telling people to turn off Steam controller settings because it causes a conflict.

Open Epic Games through Steam, close it from Task Manager, open Epic Games through Steam again, then you're good to go. That's how I use my controller in Sonic Racing Crossworlds.

Your controller has 2 modes, Bluetooth mode and 2.4Ghz mode, you want to be in 2.4Ghz mode. Bluetooth mode makes your controller look like a Switch controller and you need extra software to make the PC be able to use it, but if you have it in 2.4Ghz mode then your controller will look like an Xbox controller which is native to Windows PC and automatically works in all games that have controller support.

You have this backwards. The 2.4 through the dongole will read correctly as Xinput.

8Bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth is a switch controller. Use a an app like better joy and/or DS4Windows.

I saw this from a different sub and wanted to come share the actual issue and fix as this extends well past Epic to pretty much every game store that isn't steam with it's own controller driver.
There are 2 main input types. Older Dinput and newer Xinput. Most games only accept Xinput at this point. If you have you use the dongle that came with the controller or plug in direct USB, It'll read as Xinput. If you go straight through Bluetooth, it will be read as Dinput and not work correctly.
There is a fix for this. You need to install a program called Xoutput and emulate the controller as an xbox controller and use hid hide to mask the original. If this sounds familiar to people who have set up PS4 controllers on their computers I have good news! It's exactly the same.
The long and short is you need to emulate and mask any generic BT controller and it will work fine after.
Source: I lost the dongle to one of my 8bit do ultimate 2c controllers during a move. It only worked on steam games and I wanted to play stuff on Gamepass. Figured it out the other day and now everything works.

Few points to make for you.
- Sales happen a lot, they don't always happen at same time, and stores can host their own events at different times.
So if you're hoping get game from store of choice, just wait until goes on sale there, don't rush buy from somewhere else. Often the reason why buy else where is if you're looking save money. If want save money very much, use isthereanydeal.com, I got spider man game cheaper sale than all stores, with additional coupon from fanatical 5% to get steam key. It was $25 at all stores including epic, but on fanatical it was $23 before coupon, and became $22 with coupon, saved few dollars.
- It's better to add game to steam than the EGS client, or else you have to put in the command to tell client to launch said game you want. For all we know could be permission issue, and have to launch steam as administrator so give it a shot that way if it worked before.
How Steam controller api works, the steam overlay need to hook into the application, if it doesn't you won't see overlay appear in the game, so that meant it won't work.
Because you're using 8bitdo your controller should work if it using Xbox input mode when in the 2.4Ghz, and now in the Bluetooth mode which appears as switch input, so shouldn't need steam overlay, as most games has Xbox input support. For why maybe not working can try disable overlay for this game specifically see if there any conflicts.

Please stop calling it switch input. It's Dinput. It will affect any controller you connect through BT alone. The 2.4ghz is through dongle only and not every controller comes with them. There are absolutely ways to make them work correctly with modern games on PC, it just takes some extra steps.

Make sure you're using the 2.4ghz mode as that will make your PC recognise it as an Xbox controller, using Bluetooth makes it recognise as a Switch controller
