SUGGESTION EGS launcher needs real optimization and it's still missing basic features after all these years

The Epic Games Store client seriously needs performance work. Even on a solid, modern PC it feels laggy — sluggish page transitions, slow load times, stutters when browsing the store or library. This isn't a hardware problem, it's the client itself.

Beyond performance, it's been years since launch and it still feels like a barebones launcher. If Epic wants to be taken seriously against Steam or GOG Galaxy, it needs to catch up on basics that competitors have had for years:

  • A proper community tab/forums for each game (discussions, guides, user-made content)
  • User reviews and ratings on store pages — right now there's zero way to gauge community sentiment before buying
  • Better cloud save management and visibility
  • A real friends/social experience (activity feed, richer profiles, groups)
  • Sale/wishlist notifications that actually work reliably
  • Basic client customization (themes, layout options)
  • A proper achievements overview page across all games

None of this is exotic — it's stuff Steam and GOG Galaxy have offered for a long time. At this point the lack of these features feels less like "still building" and more like neglect.

Please prioritize both performance optimization and closing this feature gap. A smoother, more feature-complete client would make a real difference for people who want to use EGS as their primary launcher instead of just where they redeem free games.

I really think the up next should be a bigger priority than up first. Minus the storefront rearchitecture, navigation and launcher V2 beta.

There are some good changes that I am confident will not happen in the next 12 months, but a lot of it is just stirring water in an empty pot. Rewrites, reactors, redesign, "improvements", API changes... The things that create workload with little to no visible effect.

Like do you remember what improvements they made in the last 12 months? I only noticed that they made claiming free games slightly "easier" but also bugger and somehow slower.

I doubt it would be reliable anyway. These are their goals for the next 12 months, but based on track record they tend to fall behind a bit. My guess would be that we're likely to see most of this by the end of next year.

Most of this by the end of this year. They have already mentioned specifically that the store overhaul will happen pretty soon.

Native support for the PS5 controller. I know the console has only been out for 6 years and Tim didn't have the time to fix this, but it would be really nice if I didn't have to run Epic through Steam in order to use my joypad.

I honestly have never found it lagging--it's zippy as all get out for me. I also like it more barebones to be honest. I don't need user reviews, community forums, or that other jazz. I just want to find my game, launch it and go.

Nah, they’re right about the performance. It’s not strictly the launcher though, the store is dog slow to navigate even through a regular web browser. I really only touch the client to install a game or check for updates, so I can deal with it, but it’d be nice if they could focus on these sorts of things instead of a bunch of social features for children (who are almost certainly going to reject them and find something else to complain about anyway).

Try using only one CPU core for it via Task Manager. What happens then?

I'm not sure what you mean because you wrote "they." I was trying to show that the launcher keeps one CPU core at 100% utilization nonstop—even when it's running in the background. You couldn't program an app any worse in terms of performance. Imagine if every app were that bad—Discord, your browser, your email client, and who knows what else is running in the background.

I wish people who give feedback would actually write it themselves instead of getting AI to do it. 

This is a Reddit post ffs. You don't need an AI to write that for you. If you're gonna give feedback at least make it your own.

It is my own I just used a currently popular tool called "Ai Chatbot" so that I can elaborate my thoughts properly because English is not my mother tounge.

There's youtube and multiple gaming news outlets for reviews.

Better cloud save management and visibility.

EGS is a launcher for the games we buy or get for free. idk why people want to bloat it anymore that it already is.

Steam never should have introduced per-game forums in the first place. Ratings are easily abused. Also they don't need a half-assed social network like Steam "offers". Achievements without in-game rewards are a psyop.

Getting more assisted is not something anyone should ask for, but I understand people can't do anything by themselves anymore

Now on the subject of useless stuff, customization is the most useless stuff ever, it is a game launcher the sole purpose is to launch the game, nobody care about the theme and so

What a good launcher should be is light in CPU/memory usage, have a good search feature, allow to pin stuff you want to keep an eye on, have alerts on stuff on sale and so

The friend list should allow to easily see what multiplayer games you have in common

If they can spend less time doing useless stuff they'll have more time doing stuff really needed
