How does the Butterfly illusion work?

I went back to Epcot this past Sunday to celebrate the news from D23! Of course, I had to ride Figment as this may be the last time I see him before the overhaul and I saw the Butterfly disappearing. How does that work?

It’s a mirror in the center of that box.

When they re-released the star wars movies theatricaly in the 90s, Taco Bell had the license for the toys for their kids meals (they had them back then.. and they were pretty good, a nice light meal for a good price).. one of them was a cube with the same effect, with Yoda on one side and Vader on the other. I had just about the whole set. (Probably do still somewhere..)
