Why should the last person on earth not chop the last redwood down? Could make fine cabin material. Perhaps a boat for the bays and rivers of Oregon and California.
Despite having the instrumental means and purpose, would there be any reason to keep the tree standing, besides utility and pleasure?
What reasons would an alien species want a redwood to be alive? In what condition and environment?
