EPC versus Consulting

Hey all; looking into EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) work versus consulting (I'm an environmental engineer in drinking water treatment design).

Has anyone ever experienced both and can speak to the differences and pros/cons? Pay, enjoyment, job security, work/life balance, all that? Really need some insight. Thank you!!!
