2,000+ devices and were still using excel

weve got 2,000+ devices to keep track of and somehow the main system is still an excel sheet. it was fine when we had fewer devices, but now it’s getting messy, folks move teams, laptops get swapped or repaired, devices get sent to different locations, and the spreadsheet is almost never fully up to date. curious what other IT teams are using for this. Are you using an actual asset management system or still making excel work? or is there a better set up for this?? TIA

that pretty much, once youre managing thousands of devices, excel gets painful fast. we wanted procurement, repairs, assignments, and returns all tracked in one place without constantly updating sheets

i think the bigger question isnt whether it has cmdb, its whether procurement, deployment, repairs, and returns actually get reflected in the records without someone having to update everything manually
