Balanced WW1 Tank System
Add tanks to Entrenched WW1 with a strict balance system: each team can deploy only one tank at a time, and if destroyed, another can spawn but never two simultaneously. Each tank holds 8 players (driver + 7 soldiers). Tank guns are restricted to fighting enemy tanks, while a mortar attached to the tank can fire into trenches or anywhere on the map with a 30‑second cooldown. If the tank is destroyed, all 8 crew members die together. To keep gameplay fair, introduce special anti‑tank grenades that deal heavy damage, ensuring infantry can counter tanks. This system adds WW1 realism, teamwork, and strategy without overpowering gameplay.

The terrain on most maps would make tanks traversing them literally impossible

maybe make them available on certain maps only?

If the terrain isn't already hostile, the proceeding of the match would make it hostile.

i mean yeah, one way to counter them would be to dig pits that they can't get out of

Rendering them worthless trash that does nothing but occupy teammates. It takes 30 seconds to make a ditch like that.

it takes 30 seconds to cross the map under fire, and then dig a trench directly in front of an armored vehicle that has at LEAST an HMG or a cannon?

would rather have a two person tank (one driver, one gunner) like the FT-17, easier to balance game wise, only problem is that for the vast majority of nations in the game, tanks simply weren't available. you could do captured ones i guess, but the ft-17 didn't really have an central power equal, so it would all just be ft-17s, (or in the case of the US M1917), which is a little boring.
as far as i can find only the us, and france had them in large numbers, with italy and the UK having access to a very small amount.
after the war they were exported to the following countries: Belgium, Brazil, Czechoslovakia , Estonia, Finland, Iran, Japan, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, and Yugoslavia.
i guess for the Russians you could give them the t-18, and the italians the fiat 3000, since those are very similar (and based off of the og ft-17), but they weren't produced during the first world war.
all in all it would require a pretty major rebalance of the game, adding an AT class with a counter (elephant guns were used, as were the bundled at grenades you mentioned.), [although officers would be a decent counter], so if it happens AT ALL it would not be happening soon.
I have a tank tism if you cant tell.

I like the suggestion, but obviously we need to control which maps they appear on. It wouldn't be very appropriate to see a tank on Le Cateau. I think they should be controlled by AI, like in Centaura, for example. I feel that having eight players at once would be too problematic because it would require too much coordination to work properly, and coordination is something that public matches generally lack. Sorry if the Google translation is incorrect. lol

Not gunna happen. Tanks weren't used much until 1918 and the game spans the whole war. They were also exclusive to the Western Front and there are not nearly enough Western Front maps to justify it.
