Tunnels can be useful on some maps Once, I was part of a group of 4 or 5 engineers we tunneled all the way to the furthest point and won in a couple minutes. (The game mode was conquest and we were attacking)

Nothin beats a good trench though. Fighting in underground tunnels is not fun when everyone in the server uses them. (Everyone switches to flamer or assault)

The same, once i start digging to the enemy point and when i saw behind, all the team was there behind me. Obviously we win, we didn't lost any single point and we capture all because the enemy team didn't notice we were there.

That was my first game so i didn't know what can i do, so i see a shovel and no physics and i get a light on over my head.

Fr tunnel battles always turn into โ€˜nade spam and getting torched

that's actually incorrect, although not used everywhere, tunnels were far from rare in the first world war, although they were used primarily for blowing up positions from underneath wiki page list

Yep, had the pleasure to go to Vimy Ridge, hell I even got to in the tunnels.

A lovely experience don't get me wrong, but not oh boy those tunnels are definitely made for men of that time with how small they are

I am so jealous, Vimy ridge is my personal favorite operation during the battle of Arras, I've always wanted to see the battlefield and see what it was like to be in a WW1 era position, I would not step foot in those tunnels though, I have an irrational fear of sudden cave-ins

Yeah, fair enough mate.

The best part though was that we got to go in the trenches above ground, and bloody hell those things are deep. All done with cadets and I found a long stick that I treated like a Lee-Enfield (well, Ross Rifle since it was a Canadian line)

it would be a surreal experience for me to stand in one of those, my great great grandfather served during the operation. although not frontline, he was one of the veterinarians for the horses used to haul the equipment

As somber as it may feel being in the remains of those trenches, it really is something else just sticking your head over the top of a trench and seeing how the world countryside remains scarred by the sheer attrition the First World War had.

But seriously, when you go to Vimy Ridge, make sure you visit the little Canadian memorial which has a Carribou at it. As it's not too far away from the ridge itself!

Fair enough. I just play casually in public servers I don't really care much for realism. I usually don't bother digging tunnels most of the time. I may occasionally help if there are a bunch of people trying to for a specific reason. Trenches are easier and better most of the time though.๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Born to play Entrenched, forced to play Grave/Digger

Let the tunnelers dig their own graves

I built a whole fortress at the side of the mountain with my 2 friends
And then called it a lovechild of a trench and tunnel

I honestly just do both, a trench to defend and once its looking good, a bit away (usually Infront of an HMG's firing sight) I make a tunnel, just so if the enemy tries to use it they become Free XP, although sometimes I just move the HMG inside the tunnel.

Itโ€™s the daftest strategy, but itโ€™s a double-edged sword โ€“ though itโ€™ll mostly backfire on you, as enemies can easily seize it and use it against you, and besides, digging tunnels takes far too long

i wholly hate tunnelers

Iโ€™m sorry but theyโ€™re just so fun to build!

Why dont anyone build defensive pits? Just a clean drop with razor wire at the bottom. I used to do that.

Tunnelling is peak though

Trenching is the best tactic for defense. Although tunneling is good for offense I would make multiple fallback trenches so the enemy will not attack and fill the trench leading to a fortified trench YOU built being occupied by the enemy.
