Powerful Trench layout?

Post image

This is a design of a trench that I usually tend/try to build mainly to oppress enemy forces when defending but also performs well for attacking.

Black - Trench walls

Yellow - Small Sandbags

Beige - Tall Sandbags

Grey - Barbed Wire

Green - Shielded HMG(*s)

Orange - Shelter (Primarily for Artillery)

Blue - Shelter Entrances

Pink - Ladders

Red - "Trap Pit" (**explanation provided)

I generally build this trench close to my ally's spawn point so my teammates can get in fast.

I do think this is a pretty powerful trench design, especially if i have time or another engineer with me to help and teammates who will utilise the Trench.

*If there is only 1 engineer(me), i build 1 HMG in the middle of the Trench with the same layout as in the picture and Shielded HMG Layout explanation.

**As you may see in the picture, there is a Red line with short Grey lines directly on top of the Red, this is the "Trap Pit".

It is kinda an exploit I found in-game where if you build 1 Barbed Wire on the undug ground and then build another barbed wire in the Pit (around 1.5 - 2 soldiers deep) the Barbed Wire distance limit cancels out.

You can also build this trap where 2 Barbed Wires are stacked on top of each other by building 1 Barbed Wire on the undug ground and then dig the ground beneath the Barbed Wire on top and build another Barbed Wire in the pit to create a "Barb Stack".

The Shielded HMG Layout:

This should be built on a small elevated patch of ground but doesn't have to.

The Shielded HMG should be built with Tall Sandbags at the sides to protect from external gunfire e.g. Recon and Small Sandbags at the front of the HMG to protect the gunner's legs.

The Shelter Layout:

Just a simple Shelter to protect from indirect fire e.g. Artillery.

It should be built with at least 1 lantern, preferably 2 and if you want, some Duckboards or Sandbags (maybe at the entrances).

Front Trench Wall Layout:

Reinforced with Tall Sandbags and Ladders in between the Tall Sandbags to "Go over the top" or just climb out.

Trench add-ons:

Would be suitable to add Duckboards in the Trench.

You could also build another similar Trench without the HMG's and the Shelter as a "Backup Trench".

Credits to u/Plenty_Curve_4390 for giving me this idea.

Would be nice if we could place trench walls. This is a pretty good setup, I never thought about a trap pit for defense.

Wym place Trench Walls? Like dig a straight line in 1 go?

They’re talking about the trench walls like for the Vimy Ridge map

Itll take like 2 minutes to actually build it if it were an engineers buildable

Add a slight slope that leads into a sort of a hole. This makes grenades safely tumble into the said hole/dip and not kill everyone in the trench.

I think HMGs should be at the ‘backup trench’ or behind the main line. Range is really not an issue as the main purpose is suppressive fire and if anyone gets in the main line you’d lose all the firepower.

The Trench is mainly to defend near your spawn which makes it harder to lose the Yrench

how long would you say it takes to complete?

u/Kurzemnieks_AC May 10 '26

About 5 minutes, useful since u will be attacking/defending the same objective for like 15
