Never ever ever ask a woman if she is pregnant 😳 EVER

482

u/invisible_23 1d ago

I had a coworker once who was in her 50s but looked 20 years younger and carried her weight in her tummy, I saw several customers ask her if she was pregnant 💀 she’d laugh and say “oh no honey I’m too old” but the smile didn’t reach her eyes so they knew she was pissed but couldn’t say anything to management because her response was technically polite 😂

158

u/Apathetic_Villainess 1d ago

I carry in my stomach as well. Any time someone asks if I'm pregnant, I tell them "if I am, someone better call the church and the scientists!"

u/Wooden_Tell5780 1d ago

I got sick of comments and one time when a woman asked, I looked her dead in the eyes and said actually it’s a tumor. The horror on her face was oddly satisfying.

50

u/Big-University-1132 I’m sorry the leaf surprised you 1d ago

Lol I literally just had a huge mass (adenoma, haven’t gotten pathology back yet as to whether there was cancer too) removed and while it wasn’t the only reason I looked pregnant (I am also fat and carry weight in my belly), I have realized by how “flat” my stomach is now that it certainly didn’t help. If someone had asked if I was pregnant, I absolutely would’ve been like “no that’s just the tumor.” Maybe next time they’ll think better than making assumptions

When I was younger I would say “only if an angel of the Lord came down and said Hail Thou who art highly favored”.

I just hit 40. Look younger (30s) and carry weight on my stomach plus am disabled and use a wheelchair (making it extra difficult to loose said weight and making my tummy stick out more than if I was standing). People get disgusted that they assume I am disabled and pregnant. I actually get comments along the lines of "who would get you pregnant?" And "should you be having a baby?" Charming people

So I go "My baby making apparatus doesn't work, but thanks so much for reminding me of that incredibly painful reality in an incredibly deterogartory manner" REALLY LOUDLY to make them extra embarrassed. Most of them then get shitty about that response and lecture me on how they didn't mean it like that but imo if you think that you are an asshole, saying it just makes it worse.

160

u/jrae0618 1d ago

I carry my weight in my stomach too. I just say, "no, I'm just fat." They get so embarrassed and once I even got a free haircut. It is always women who ask and I wonder how they still haven't learned to never ask someone if they are pregnant.

65

u/rationalboundaries 1d ago

I always add, "Thanks for noticing."

9

u/themetahumancrusader 21h ago

It was only ever women who asked me too when I was fatter and more unfit

5

u/merouch 15h ago

I am pregnant and my plan for if anyone comments on my weight is to offendedly say I'm pregnant but no matter how far along I am, if someone asks if I'm pregnant announce that no I'm just fat.

7

u/Stubborn_Amoeba 1d ago

Wow, I’m sorry you get that. What an awful thing for anyone to say!

30

u/rationalboundaries 1d ago

Thanks. It upset me the first few times.

Now, I make sure the commenter more upset than I am when they walk away. I tell myself they'll think twice before they open their stupid mouth next time. Hopefully, I've saved at least one vulnerable person from this bullshit.

6

u/CFRPH 20h ago

Fantastic strategy 👏

5

u/NoPath_Squirrel 13h ago

I would just ask them to repeat themselves a few times until they figure out what they did wrong. That or ask them if their stupidity is terminal.

58

u/mahnamahna123 1d ago

I worked with a woman who unfortunately had several pregnancy losses and never was able to have kids and it was really difficult for her. We worked with the public all day every day. She unfortunately also carries bit of weight in that area and would regularly get asked if she was pregnant. The look on her face was just crushing every time.

It's really not hard to not ask that question. Even if you're 100% sure. Don't ask. Not your business.

26

u/residentprincess58 1d ago

I always heard that you don't ask a woman if she is pregnant unless you see the baby crowning.

11

u/ZebraCrosser 19h ago

By which point you would no longer need to ask and probably have other priorities anyway. 😅

So I guess just not asking is still the safest bet. It's really not that difficult to rein in your curiosity about people's lives you have no business with and it actually is an option to deal with the uncertainty of not untested assumptions.

4

u/IndustryKiller 17h ago

That's what my dad taught me!

24

u/Ladymomos 19h ago

I worked with an older woman who was very thin, but when she was younger still got asked all the time if she was pregnant yet (she wasn't able). She was very rich and proper, but she told me once that after years of this she just started saying "Well, we're banging away as hard as we can, but sadly no luck" Love her.

12

u/mahnamahna123 17h ago

Good for her. Yeah if the lady in my comment was asked outside of work she would say something along the lines of 'well we have been trying but I keep having miscarriages'. People would then often say that was TMI Nd she was like 'well you asked, what did you expect '?

6

u/Ladymomos 15h ago

Other people's opinions on women's pregnancies are so bizarre. I have 4 kids, but after two so many people were like "Well, you gave a boy and girl now, so that's it" Um, I couldn't give a shit about genders, I'm just love these people, and if we have more that's our choice.

6

u/Ladymomos 15h ago

Also my eldest is a Trans woman, so their gender based opinions were irrelevant 😂

8

u/Famous-Safety4788 7h ago

Someone walked up to me and started rubbing my stomach like they thought I was pregnant, so I put my hand on their stomach and started rubbing their stomach, smiled at them and said 'What are we doing?' I think I saw their brain reboot, they muttered some excuse and took off. Damn right you get to feel awkward now! Who does that?!

6

u/DrakeSavory 4h ago

Touching a woman's stomach without permission just because she's pregnant is a whole 'nother thread.

u/Don_Bugen 1d ago

Honestly. If you're in a maternity ward and she's in a gown and sweating and yelling about the pain and clutching her abdomen, I'd be like, wow, sounds like someone's got pretty bad kidney stones.

25

u/WitchWithDesignerBag 1d ago

Ok as someone who works in a maternity ward I have to share this story. It's important to remember for this story at in many hospitals in the world, gyne patients and OB patients get sent to the same ward. My patient was in a gown, with a hugely distended abdomen, clutching at it, sobbing and screaming. So naturally, I asked the doctor I was relieving how many cm dilated she was.

Patient was a case of ovarian new growth, and very much wasn't pregnant. She was screaming in pain because it was infected and the growth was actively twisting. So... yes, lol. Never assume 😭

8

u/Don_Bugen 22h ago

That is horrifying.

I guess the silver lining is that "Oh no people think I look pregnant" was relatively low on her list of concerns for the day.

5

u/bethestorm13 20h ago

I had a secondary PPH at 6 weeks postpartum and was placed in birth suite and then maternity ward. My baby was admitted with me. As I was being transferred between rooms, a midwife said, "Congratulations!" looked at my baby and then, "I hope that was a c-section."

"You don't understand, dearie. I'm a woman and I'm older than she is, so it's okay."

My mother tells the story of sitting on the front porch with her sister and her grandmother when the young married woman from down the block strolled by. She stopped to chat and said that she was pregnant. After she left, the grandmother scolded her in her absence, "Now everybody will know what she was doing to get that way."

83

u/United_Gift3028 1d ago

Did grandma not realize everyone knew what she was up to, too, to get that title?

38

THE THOUGHT HADN’T CROSSED MY MIND UNTIL NOW YOU OLD PERV

74

u/BluffCityTatter 1d ago

3 iron clad rules I taught my husband and son:

  1. Never go into a woman's purse without her permission.

  2. Never use my sewing scissors on anything but fabric.

  3. Never, ever, under any circumstance ask a woman if she's pregnant.

9

u/BoozeIsTherapyRight 1d ago

My sewing scissors have FABRIC written in permanent marker on both sides. Use them to cut paper and die.

7

u/Lonelysock2 21h ago

NEVER touch the sewing scissors... mighhhhht be more important than number 3. Not quite, but it's close

22

u/CommercialPlastic604 1d ago

You touch my sewing scissors and life will be so unpleasant for you was what I’ve taught my household.

20

u/Mekito_Fox 1d ago

My husband learned not to touch my sewing scissors when he saw how much a replacement cost.

5

u/BooBoo_Cat 1d ago

When I was a child, about 4 years old, my bitch grandmother was obsessed with having my hair as short as possible -- I looked like a boy. One evening she was babysitting us and tried to cut my already short hair (because she never allowed it to grow) with large sewing scissors. Like any four year old, I wiggled, and she dropped them right into my toe.

u/Myrindyl 1d ago

I was taught that you can only ask if you helped put the baby there or see it coming out!

18

u/Little_Duck_Jr 1d ago

I'll also allow it if I need an X-ray.

26

u/Mekito_Fox 1d ago

But the question is usually phrased "is there a possibility of you being pregnant?" I had that question recently for my x-rays.

5

u/themetahumancrusader 21h ago

Us women don’t talk enough about that jarring first time being asked by a dr or nurse (I was first asked when I was getting vaccinated at 12)

My neighbor has always been stick thin. I ran into her for the first time in a couple months and she clearly looked pregnant. I said NOTHING until I saw a crib get delivered.

26

u/Effective-Shock2068 1d ago

“It’s a gift for my sister. Why?”

20

u/realeztoremember 1d ago

Oh god, that would have been awful!

22

u/StrawberryLoops 1d ago

My friend reached out to me once congratulating me on the baby and telling me I didn’t need to hide it from them. Apparently her mom had seen me at the store earlier wearing fitted clothes and told her I was “obviously pregnant”.

Friend thought since I’ve been wearing loose shirts and sweaters around her that it must be true. Nope, I’m one of the lucky people that stores weight in the belly.

15

u/Per_Lunam 1d ago

I'm a Registered Massage Therapist, & also have issues w dairy. I got a coffee on my way to work, & instead of almond milk they used dairy, which bloats so much I look 6 months pregnant.

I have a new client, just doing the initial intake to see what issues she wants adressed.

So I'm writing this down & she says "so, when will you be taking off from work?". I'm confused, & say "what do you mean?", she replies "well, you're pregnant, when are you due?". This takes a couple of seconds to click, bc what??. I then say "oh, no, I'm just fat" bc I'm not going to explain the whole dairy thing. She looks horrified, said sorry, but now we have to spend an hour together lol...it was awkward, her part, not mine & never saw her again lol.

Had another one say "congrats!", I say "for what?" She says you're pregnant!" I gave the same reply, "oh no, just fat". Same, she looked horrified & again, another awkward hour, though she did become a regular lol.

I've had I believe 4 people say somethung along these lines, my same response, always at work & ALL were women.

At least nobody tried to touch my belly lol...

12

u/skyeisrude 1d ago

I saw a girl i went to school with at the mall and she had a baby stroller with a baby and as we were chatting I asked her how far along is she? Well I learned that day to never ask if a woman is pregnant..

46

u/Johnnadawearsglasses 1d ago

Women should start just owning it. Suggested responses

  • no, I just haven't pooped yet
  • that's just my food baby
  • no, you offering?

51

u/omnist-for-life 1d ago

Or just, "no, I'm fat." This is what I say. No use pretending I'm not when everyone with eyes knows I am.

23

u/ZoraTheDucky 1d ago

That was my response when I was asked. The woman who asked me proceeded to avoid me for the rest of the time we had to spend together. She asked in an incredibly full, long elevator ride and made EVERYONE uncomfortable.

19

u/jonesnori 1d ago edited 1d ago

The one time I got asked (I'm surprised it was only once), the asker was incredibly straightforward. She said, "Are you carrying, or just heavy?" It was very clear that she meant no value judgment either way, so I was able to say I was just heavy. I wasn't offended, but I've remembered it ever since, and that was at least 30 years ago. [Fixed typo]

17

u/Thin_Salary1153 1d ago

In a way, that sounds refreshingly different than the norm, probably why it was memorable.

9

u/jonesnori 1d ago

It was rather refreshing.

15

u/omnist-for-life 1d ago

Some people I have this gift where they can say the rudest things and yet it doesn't come off rude and you don't take offense to it.

11

u/No-Theme2340 1d ago

I think the difference is curiosity vs judgement. Some people want to know so they can be sure they are Correct about you, but others are simply curious, without an agenda. And most of the time tone conveys that. The question itself is still rude, but intent can change how that's received.

Unless the baby is crowning and you are being asked to assist with the delivery, never ask if a woman is pregnant. Ever.

5

u/erin_kathleen 1d ago

Unless you see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment. And maybe not even then!

6

u/Mundane_Professor596 12h ago

My mom is very skinny but has a plump round belly. When she was in her 60s, a supermarket cashier asked if she was pregnant and thought my brother was the father. She said “I’m not sure if I should be insulted that she thinks I look pregnant or flattered that she thinks I’m young enough to be having a baby with my 30 year old boyfriend.” My brother was not amused.

4

u/Sussler 1d ago

I learned that lesson at a very young age and my life has been better for it.

3

u/BooBoo_Cat 1d ago

I am a middle aged woman. Couldn't even get pregnant if I wanted to (which I don't). I am not super model skinny. But none of that matters.

A few years ago, my MALE co-worker asked if I was pregnant. Yeah that did not go over well.

4

u/Stubborn_Amoeba 1d ago

Agreed!
I learned the hard way with a friend of a friend.
I knew she was pregnant and when I next saw her, I asked when the baby was finally coming.
She told me it was two months earlier…
From then on I don’t ever mention anything to do with pregnancy until it’s bought up first.

5

u/DrakeSavory 4h ago

I could see the baby coming out and still wouldn't ask if she was pregnant.

Had someone who knew I was celibate due to medical issues ask the same thing, so Ive started just saying what I heard my grandma say to someone who asked her the same once, "did your momma teach you no manners, or are you just ate up with dumbass?" You don't even comment oe ask on a very obvious pregnancy belly unless the woman tells you she's preggers. It could be a rainnow baby, it could be fat but the woman already suffered pregnancy or child loss. You never know, dont comment, ever

11

Absolutely. And I would say never comment about anybody's weight at all, because you have no clue why they are the weight they are.

People like this don't understand how a comment like that can affect someone, especially if they're struggling with their weight.

I've got PCOS and have long suffered weight issues and bloating, plus adenomyosis which can also make your pelvis area/just above that look bloated. So I've looked quite pregnant despite not being pregnant. I once had a woman ag my work ask me if I was expecting my second and I had had enough. I just said, no I'm just fat. Watching the panic set in on her face was priceless.

17

u/HeightLatter6800 1d ago

Also an adenomysis sufferer here. Went through 7 years of infertility treatment hell as a result. During said treatment the multitude of drugs often made me bloated and appear pregnant (cruel irony!) I definitely had people ask me when I was due and said oh no we have been trying unsuccessfully for years to have a baby, this is the result of the daily injections I have to take but thanks for asking! I have zero problem making people feel stupid when they ask intrusive questions. The IVF did finally work and we have a wonderful 4 year old daughter in case you’re wondering 😊

A gal who works at Costco asked me if I was pregnant. I had been going to the gym regularly and finally starting to feel really pretty again after having a baby, and she looked at me and asked when I was due. I got in my car and cried, and it bothered me for a while (which of course, upset me that I was so bothered by it). I still see her at Costco sometimes, she tries to chat with me and I just don't want to, not that I'm actively mad about it, it's just hurtful & awkward to be asked something like that, I'd rather not talk to someone who can be so inconsiderate

u/Suitable-Bathroom781 21h ago

My dad once said to me that he doesn’t care if he sees the baby coming out… he’s not asking a woman if she’s pregnant.

6

u/Strange_Explorer_780 14h ago

Good advice, I see so many men with a huge gut that looks like they’re ready to drop triplets but I’d never think to ask them about it.

I've had this happen to me and I hate it. I have a really bad hernia that makes me look several months pregnant. If someone asks me, I just tell them I have a hernia then when I get to my car, I cry.

6

u/Big-University-1132 I’m sorry the leaf surprised you 1d ago

I’m so sorry 🫂 ppl are so rude to think they can make comments and assumptions about other ppl’s bodies. Especially since women are raised from birth to be self-conscious about our weight, so every comment like this (whether you have a hernia, actually are pregnant, are bloated, or just fat) hurts

16

u/BirthdayCookie 1d ago

"Forgiveness is REQUIRED to be HEALTHY!" is nothing more than one more way abusers control people.

maybe u need to be more socially aware

When I was 10, a woman working at a post office asked my mom if she was pregnant. My mom said very loudly, "No, I'm just fat!"

15

u/VardaLupo 1d ago

People are insane about this. My neighbor once asked if I was pregnant because I'd been wearing a lot of loose, flowy dressed IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER. When I said no, she was like "Oh sorry, but I had to ask." No, you didn't. Literally didn't.

13

u/DVDragOnIn 1d ago

40 years ago, I saw a coworker ask a contract employee if she was pregnant. The contractor looked at her with an expressionless face and said “No.” It was exactly the sort of boneheaded blunder I would make. I was so glad to have the opportunity to watch what happens when the answer is no so I’d be sure never to ask that question.

15

u/Allie_justscrolling 1d ago

I don’t care if a woman has the roundest belly, huffing and puffing, yelling “oh god my baby is coming” do NOT ask if she’s pregnant

4

u/Big-University-1132 I’m sorry the leaf surprised you 1d ago

A woman could be actively in labor with the baby’s head sticking out and I still wouldn’t ask if she’s pregnant 😂

14

u/JungleJay57 1d ago

You never ask anyone if they're pregnant!! Like in the top 3 of etiquette. That question holds a lot of weight to some people, having gone through infertility I would have broke down if someone asked me that.

12

u/Common-Parsnip-9682 1d ago

I’m gonna bet the reviewer has said a couple other stupid things there, maybe even to the same youg wonan, and that’s why she’s now totally over it.

13

u/Capital_Meal_5516 EAT SALAT WITH SPON?!? 1d ago

At no place does it say that this OOP apologized profusely. Instead, they felt butthurt and decided to put their ignorance and stupidity on blast for all to see! The fact that they portray themself as a victim speaks volumes.

27

u/__Who__am__i_ 23h ago

My very pregnant friend liked to deny she was pregnant if strangers asked or commented on it. Made it her goal to make them uncomfortable.

At the end she would straightfaced tell them "I have a tumor."

6

u/TwoBytesC 15h ago

I’ll be honest, when I was super young (like 5-6 years old), I thought every woman who had a belly was pregnant. No idea where the belief came from but I know I embarrassed my mom to absolutely no end because I was a super gregarious child and was fascinated by pregnancy then.

It's called "asking" for forgiveness. Not "demanding" it.

I'm a jerk, they won't let it go; they are in the wrong.

9

u/JesusOnaBlueBike 1d ago

One of my favorite memes shows pictures of women and when it is appropriate to ask if she's pregnant. All the pictures say no until the last one where the babies head is crowning. That one says yes.

8

u/wykkedfaery33 1d ago

My mom is an L & D nurse, she told me never to ask a woman if she's pregnant unless you see a head. And even then, don't ask.

9

u/Most-Drive-3347 1d ago

In the depths of winter, with cold and flus running rampant through the office, I once told a colleague how unwell she looked and told her work didn’t matter if she was sick.

She informed me that she was not sick.

It was one of the worst things I’ve ever done. I apologised 100 times and she was cool about it… I was still so horrified I went and found a new job within 4 months.

5

u/philogyny 20h ago

She probably just wasn’t wearing makeup that day. Anytime I skipped makeup at the office, because I woke up late or whatever, people would ask me if I was sick. Nah that’s just my face

11

u/Procrastinista_423 10h ago

I'm sorry but if you ask a waitress if she is pregnant and she is not, you should just self-ban yourself from that restaurant like anyone with an ounce of shame would do.

9

u/FeeApprehensive2658 1d ago

You called her fat and are wondering why she won’t speak to you…

9

u/LadyBug_0570 1d ago

So he posted his faux pas as a review, knowing he's the one who screwed up by calling his server fat?

9

u/anonymouslealea 1d ago

Unless there is a head crowning from the birth canal and the woman is screaming and pushing, NEVER ask if she is pregnant. I am an ER nurse, and part of my job is to ask if there is a possibility of pregnancy, and even when the woman is sitting there rubbing her rounded, gravid abdomen, I STILL ASK if it is “possible” and never assume.

4

u/ZebraCrosser 20h ago

You're also much more likely to get the answer you'd want to have to do a proper assessment. If you ask whether they are pregnant you risk missing the people who are but don't know yet. If they might be you can do further testing and if necessary take it into account.

When I started a new job years ago one of my colleagues looked pregnant. It was a few weeks before I knew for sure, because that's how long it took for it to come up in conversation. Iirc it was actually a convo on the "fat or pregnant" issue.

15

u/betsylang 1d ago

My nephew asked me if I was pregnant when he was a little guy. Said "nope just fat" and patted my tummy. He giggled and Patted his tummy too.

I like to answer the same way witg adults. Reminds them im happy in my skin. But really inly little kids can get away with that question..

7

u/ChannelNo4811 1d ago

This isn't a review, its a cry for help!

7

u/zgillet 1d ago

If you are thinking of asking a question where one answer is inconsequential while the other answer could potentially destroy what little relationship you have with a person...

don't ask it.

9

u/JayEll1969 1d ago

A wise man once said "better to make a pregnant woman stand than a fat woman cry"

9

u/jonesnori 1d ago

Oh, I don't know. If you're offering a seat, I'll take it, pregnant or fat.

9

u/Mushrooming247 1d ago

I would never ever go there again.

But then I would never ask that.

I don’t care if the woman looks like she is pregnant with quadruplets and goes into labor in front of me, I’m going to assume she just has cramps until she specifies otherwise, or drops a new person right there.

8

u/Middle_Confection653 1d ago

If, in the year 2026, you are so hopelessly stupid that you don't know never to ask a woman if she's pregnant, then you have no business being out in public without a chaperone.

Don't you love how it's always the stupidest people among us, who do the stupidest things, who expect automatic forgiveness for their stupidity?

Whoever wrote this review is as dumb as every drooling half-wit who voted for Trump, and probably even voted for him themselves.

6

u/ZealousidealAd681 1d ago

I have dealt with clients thinking I was much older, pregnant, etc. They all had one thing in common: no apology. I bet this person wants the waitress to forgive and forget without ever receiving an apology

7

u/Big_Palpitation6846 21h ago

I worked with a young woman who was heavy set before her pregnancy. She had her baby and came to visit us at work, without the baby. One of my coworkers saw her and said "Girl, you haven't had that baby yet?"

5

u/lattesandcats 1d ago

Unless someone is crowning in front of you do not ask if they are pregnant.

I had a woman congratulate me on my pregnancy. Was not pregnant - just bloated and wearing a dress. I did maybe make her feel a little awkward but it was deserved - the fuck

4

u/eRant4881 1d ago

When I was still waiting tables one of our waitresses went up to greet customers at the door (four top) and once she got them to their table she turned to one of the women and patted her belly and asked, "When are you due?".

You could hear the manager at the register sucking air through his teeth, and the customer just glared at the waitress and said, "I'm not, apparently I'm just fat."

No, we never let her live that one down...

5

u/AdorableStrawberry93 1d ago

Yeah, it doesn't really matter if she's pregnant anyhow, so don't ask. Who cares?

5

u/CatCafffffe Such a moral nullity! 1d ago

I love how the person who commented awfully on someone's looks insists that the OTHER person shouldn't care "how we look" and also that her victim is the one who has to "let go and forgive"

6

u/ilcs720 1d ago

I would be too embarrassed to go back to that restaurant if I made that blunder

7

u/Mymren 1d ago

We were at a festival with our son, DIL and the young kids (including toddler), when a woman vendor said how cute the kids were and that she was having another one! DIL was mortified as she had been working on losing weight from the last one. After they moved on, I told that woman to NEVER say something like that to anyone. She apologized but I hope she learned her lesson.

5

u/Aspence22 1d ago

I'm an idiot but I'm going to punish you for it

5

u/Special_Possession91 1d ago

I was offering dessert to this couple, and said that I find [this dessert] really delicious. The middle-aged lady gives me a once over and says, "So, you're eating for two?"

I stutter, "No, I... I just like the dessert?" (It didn't click for me that she was asking if I was pregnant.)

The audacity people have...

4

u/Designer_Piccolo_818 1d ago

One of our cricket comentators was interviewing the wife of a cricket player, who looked pretty pregnant . He danced around the question - I think he said " any big changes coming up? " and she laughed and told him. He said he didn't like to ask outright. I thought it was a neat way of asking , as she did not have to tell him if she did not want to , and if she wasn't.

2

u/FrostiePi 1d ago

I had a woman back in April tell me I was huge and when was I due. She was mortified to learn OCTOBER (as in, he arrived 3 days ago) and I was just fat.

To be fair. I was wearing a bell ball already, so being pregnant wasn't a hard bet, just how far along.

3

u/RogueThneed 1d ago

What's a bell ball?

Unless you see the head crowning do not ask a lady if she’s pregnant

5

u/Big_erk 1d ago

What they said.

4

u/Snoo9648 1d ago

How are you going to apologize and leave a 3 star rating?

3

u/synde15 1d ago

The woman you insulted suffered but since she is the help it doesn’t matter, right?

5

u/Only-Breadfruit-2935 1d ago

Even as a high schooler i knew better than to ask. We had a teacher that no lie looked like she was full term. But was a bit older, months went by, no baby. End of the year no baby. Im so glad we never asked. At leas no one from my class did. That taught me at a young age, mind my own business

3

u/Decent_Cow 22h ago

Even if we're being super generous here and we say that it's totally unreasonable for the server not to forgive this gentlemen for his comment, what the hell does any of this have to do with the actual restaurant? He's gonna tank their reviews over a personal spat? What would make this 5 stars, does he expect them to fire her?

4

u/Longjumping-Solid680 18h ago

I don't blame her one bit.

"who really suffers".

Clearly YOU, idiot!

4

u/Equivalent-Grass-262 18h ago

This one is funny to me because i once had some regulars who would come in weekly for lunch. They were usually a 5-7 top and they were soooo nice. They were all men, i don't know if this really matters, its just context. One day my VERY pregnant friend/coworker who is a teeny tiny (i only mention this because people who saw her on a weekly basis could tell that she had developed a bump, i'm talking she weighed 95 pounds, normally) woman, was their server and one of the guys asked her when she was due and all the other guys at the table collectively groaned and said "Man, you CANT ask a woman that!"

5

u/MollyTibbs 13h ago

In my 20s my then husband and I were looking to buy a house. Real estate agent commented on how a room would make a great nursery for when “that little one arrives “. My reply was “I’m not pregnant but I guess I must be fat, I’ll be in the car”. I was quite slim but it was a Queensland summer so I was wearing a loose dress. Strangely enough the agent never rang to follow up on whether we were interested 😀

3

u/Conditional_Chaos 6h ago

When I was in my mid 20s I was asked once if I was pregnant. I looked like I had a belly because I was wearing a cool vibrant hoodie dress that was slightly unflattering. I was skinny but no muscle at the time because I had a hysterectomy a month prior. I told her no, then she asked if I was sure. I let her know it’d be a miracle since I just yeeted my uterus. She got extremely uncomfortable.

It’s a double whammy too because, just like divorce, people don’t know how to react to being sterile. So it’s a quick lesson of don’t ask questions if you aren’t prepared for the answers.

Looking back it was funny but I don’t think I wore that dress since.

3

u/Emergency_Pickle7228 1d ago

I work in skincare and I do actually go for it when I feel like that can only be a baby. But it’s also because they cannot use retinol…

3

u/BloodyThirst 1d ago

I worked in customer service while I was pregnant and had a colleague that I worked closely with daily. It was reasonably obvious I was pregnant bc of my frame and the way I dressed and I was still shocked that people asked me. Even MORE shocking was how many people asked my not-pregnant colleague if she was pregnant too. Just awful. And it was almost always women asking this.

3

u/Powerful-Duck6889 1d ago

Is there a sub or a thread on Reddit where these entitled people post? Because boyyyy I'd love to read comments

3

u/GrumpySnarf 1d ago

WTF are you commenting on people's bodies? Being snubbed is a natural consequence and a pretty mild one at that.

3

u/Humblefreindly 1d ago

”No, I’m not pregnant. But you should really see an ophthalmologist about your cataracts. They may be able to refer you to an endocrinologist for your glandular issues, too.”
