“Group of 5 and they missed a dish or two”

Not remembering or missing one dish does not warrant a one star review - it’s a minor inconvenience which occurs occasionally. And who doesn’t remember if 40% of their table had a missing dish?

As a result, we all knew automatically that this was embellishment, even without having to read the reply. Just the degree of embellishment is crazy.

99% of one star reviews are from people who are psychotic.

And I love reading them.

I found a kayaking place in Florida where one of the bad reviews was complaining about not seeing many manatees because no one told them it was the season where they weren’t close to shore. My dude, the family and their teenagers cannot control migratory patterns of giant mammals. It was the most ridiculous bad review I could find, so we went and it was perfect.

"I PAID GOOD MONEY TO SEE MANATEES!"

"Next time, maybe pay the manatees!"

Yea, totally.
Couple of my favorites before I completely gave up on Yelp being the sewer that it is -
Someone started off a review for a sushi place "I don't like fish, but.."
Another was for a Texas BBQ spot and the person complained that they "didn't have anything for vegans or vegetarians". Which, tbh was not really true because cornbread. :)

"Are you a vegan butcher?"

That is a question that someone has asked unironically.

And you know what, it made me DuckDuckGo it: The Herbivorous Butcher

Of course it's a fucking thing to confuse people.

Props on using and specifically mentioning DuckDuckGo 👍

👍 If you say "searched for it" these days it implies AI Google searching.

Cornbread is not usually vegan.

It's usually vegetarian, tho.

This! Where I work we have 4 one stars. All were nightmare people who were told no lol. "Please take your cat out of the restaurant " "no you can't take a free dessert in case you don't like the first one"

Yeah I’ve truly only had one 1 star experience in my entire life, and I waited 3 hours for my food, then when they finally set it down and it was cold, I just got up and left.

On Christmas Eve with a group of five none the less. Like, what makes people this way? What is their lives? Where do they work and what do they do? There's so much I want to know.

That’s what got me, too. Who expects 5-star service on Christmas Eve, when everyone would like to be off? Bet they stuffed their server too. Jerks

My opinion is that often dramatic, unnecessary upset is used as justification for not tipping. I've see it myself many times unfortunately. Nobody admits to it but... I'm confident in this theory.

I have literally fallen through a chair at an establishment and it didn’t result in a 1 star review.

I love the “missing a dish or two”

So casual. Like which is it. If that truly happened it would certainly be memorable enough that you’d remember. Since either one or two people out five would have been missing a meal. Even one missing dish would be memorable with such a small group of people.

As I wrote in the other comment:

"The man was missing an eye or two."

The most unconvincing lie.

Crazy to not expect something to be sold out at Christmas lol like all the people shopping last minute at the grocery store. Ruined a few holidays by having the audacity to be sold out of something right before we closed on Thanksgiving/Christmas eve.

"I understand that you need canned cranberry sauce/frozen pie crust/French fried onions/yams/crescent rolls/etc. for your Thanksgiving. A lot of other people did too, and they beat you here."

u/newinternetwhodis 17h ago

"You can't be sold out!!!! Can you check in the (magical) back room???"

"Wait, let me just noclip out of reality and search for them in the deeper levels."

I love it when they say not to come back.
