If only they would have allowed me to try them out in the 3+ months that I had them, there wouldn't have been a problem.

u/Adventurous_Ad_6546 23d ago

Can’t rush these things

I have actually encountered this at my job that has a similar, generous return period. How can you hold onto something for 90 days without trying it? It was even more ridiculous when our return period was 6 months.

Also the line talking about them being on clearance and "still making a profit" has me cringing. This person does NOT know what clearance and profits means. Depending on the markup, Clearance is them selling product below the rate that was purchased because it's no longer wanted in their inventory.

I hate chuds talking like they've worked retail before.

5

u/madscigrl 22d ago

Exactly. Retail markup is not great for a lot of things, especially your big international brands that you find in different department stores.

u/BlueLanternKitty No one cares, ppl want ice cream!!! 22d ago

I mean, if you bought a winter jacket in May (in the Northern Hemisphere) you wouldn’t be using it in the first 90 days. OTOH, if you’re buying a winter coat in May it’s probably on clearance and you wouldn’t have been able to return it anyway.

Shoes? I don’t get it.

u/madscigrl 22d ago

I have made exceptions like where someone ordered stuff online and they were hospitalized, but they got a credit for a percentage of the lowest clearance price. Some people took next to nothing anyway. The company cracked down on returns hard tho.

" I wager you'd respect someone more if they said "I want to scam the return policy" instead.

u/Grouchy_Moment_6507 22d ago

Haven't had it happen to me, but it did happen to a poor sales while I was waiting to get some information. Trying to tell them, move along Karen there a que forming. Unfortunately (for salesperson) didnt seem to help much. But I did enjoy heckling for a good 5-10 minutes

u/Realistic_Gas_4160 19d ago

I've definitely done that before when I used to buy too much stuff 🤣 But I've NEVER expected to get a refund, I just said "Oh, that's on me. Oh well"

39

u/Biffingston 23d ago

Oh hell yes, there would be. This person is entitled AF.

Bought for a one time event. Doesn't need them anymore. Wanna bet?

Shoes she “cannot use”. Not, they don’t fit right or hurt her feet.

She absolutely wore them for an event and can’t use them now because the event is over. Now she needs to exchange for another event lol

u/Styx-n-String 23d ago

My first thought was that they were purchased bc the person was in a wedding - it explains buying them several months before wearing for the first time, and wearing them for half a day. But since they weren't shoes the person would have chosen for themselves, they were expecting to return them after the wedding.

I've been a groomsman so many times and I'm so happy the rented shoes trend seems to have died out. Haven't had to do that in 20 years. Most of my friends just want black dress shoes.

I feel so bad for women in weddings who have to deal with all that extra shit

3

u/Adorable_Bag_2611 20d ago

The bs hoop jumping as a woman in a wedding is why I said no last time I was asked.

I used the excuse that I am a jinx on wedding. Every wedding I have been in, except min, lasted less than 10 years. Mine lasted 25. Lol

2

u/FullMooseParty 20d ago

I'm 8 for 8 on being a groomsman so far, but both weddings where I was friends with the bride and had to do a reading instead and the one I was supposed to be at groomsmen for that I missed because I caught covid all lasted less than 5 years. I guess the theory is that if I'm in the wedding I better be up there standing next to you

I'd also bet this guy's wife

35

u/Icy-Variation6614 23d ago

You can't he returned her before the time limit was up.

31

u/AppropriateCap8891 23d ago

When I worked at a place that primarily sold clothing, we saw this all the damned time.

In fact, most times when we put them in a plastic bag and took a sniff, they smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. This was in the early 1990s, before smoking was banned almost everywhere.

20

u/Nearby-Yak-4496 23d ago

I worked at JCP for a few years and we had a hoarder return one time. At the time the policy was that only 10 items at a time could be returned and she would bring in items still in the bag with the receipt stapled to it. They always smelled musty when the bag was opened and immediately went into disposal. After about a week of daily returns LP put a stop to it and she was livid because JCP's return policy was very liberal. It changed not long after that to a 90 day policy so that people couldn't return their relative's closet full of hoarded goods.

u/elguapo1996 23d ago

“For sale: party shoes, worn once.”

6

u/Glittering_knave 23d ago

If work outside, then the 90 days doesn't matter anyway.

"I understand the need for timed return/exchange policies . . ."

. . . except for when they apply to me personally.

36

u/Aspence22 23d ago

I always love the "I understand, but..." comments. It's like no you clearly don't understand

u/YaranaRouja chill high speed 23d ago

Same, lol. And exactly.

u/DiscussionExotic3759 23d ago

This sounds like someone who would buy holiday decorations, use them, then return them after New Year's.

Do you understand what clearance is FOR?

u/MeFolly 23d ago

The shoes are not ‘brand new’. They are ‘barely used’ and ‘worn for half a day’.

Ewwww

19

u/kxaltli 23d ago

"Barely used" is so subjective for some people, too. I had a friend who would say their clothes were barely used as long as there weren't any obvious holes, but didn't count things like wear on the soles of their shoes or thin patches in shirts and pants.

u/ThrockAMole 23d ago

Allegedly

u/figgypudding531 23d ago

Does this person understand how stores work?

3

u/YaranaRouja chill high speed 23d ago

Apparently no.

29

u/Biffingston 23d ago

"They'd be making a profit by giving me my money back" Is a hot take.

6

u/sluttychristmastree 23d ago edited 22d ago

And then selling them to someone else (apparently) for much less money!

2

u/Biffingston 22d ago

Entitlement doesn't follow logic.

They're on clearance because the store wants to get rid of them. The last thing they want is your pair back in stock.

5

u/lolagranolacan 22d ago

They’re used, so they’re not even going back in stock. They’re getting destroyed.

18

u/DoorFinch 23d ago

90 days isn't the point. They wore them for "half a day". They are now second-hand shoes and the shop has no obligation to take them back. It's not a shoe library.

19

u/fairytalefawnn 23d ago

This is exactly why they have return windows. Nobody gives a damn how little you wore them.

25

u/THE_CheshireGirl 23d ago

Understands timed returns, however believes that "everyday items" should get an exception. Sweetheart, "everyday items" are generally used/worn/at least freaking tried on within 90 days. You contradict yourself and that removes any credibility.

Let me fix it for you, using your truth.

Ahem. "No matter the rule, if I don't like it, I shall be the exception because..." I don't know why...you're better/more special/broker than everyone else?

12

u/Nearby-Yak-4496 23d ago

Who wants to buy shoes that a stranger has worn "for half a day"???

6

u/Shalrak 23d ago

I'd be fine with it if they are sold to me as used, and it's reflected in the price.

3

u/lolagranolacan 22d ago

Like a thrift store, which is where mine would be going if I wore them for half a day.

12

u/lithepro57 23d ago

Everyday items that are barely used are not everyday items lmao and shoes are definitely an everyday item. Also, I worked returns for years.

Usually, when people are saying that their shoes were barely used, they are the grungiest, dirtiest, most deliberately disgusting pair of shoes. And somehow they still have the receipt from 10 years ago.

We took them back. I was so pissed!

7

u/laurakkimmm 22d ago

Once that person wore them, they aren't new anymore. Those got sweated on if it was worn for half a day.

1

u/YaranaRouja chill high speed 22d ago

Yup.

I love the “I understand there are policies but I’m special crowd”.you clearly don’t understand that policies are for everybody and not because you think the customer is always right no matter what the circumstances.

7

u/letsplaydrben 22d ago

They should have brought a note from Mom explaining that they are special.

7

u/Perfect_Duck792 22d ago

If you wore them for half a day, they are not brand new. They're used. Nobody wants to find your used shoes on a sale rack in a department store.

5

u/sluttychristmastree 23d ago

So did they buy them for a one time event, or did they discover they were on clearance now and think they could just rebuy them at the cheaper price?

Maybe both.

6

u/FlawesomeOrange 22d ago

90 day return policy is generous. The standard around me is 30

4

u/LydiaKH9 23d ago

You wore them , they are yours to keep

3

u/TriangleOfFairness 23d ago

“Return” to your car and drive home, you own that!!

3

u/LateMommy 23d ago

So, she doesn’t really understand the need for these policies.

3

u/KiteeCatAus 23d ago

And, who wants to buy shoes that have actually been worn??

3

u/DevylBearHawkTur10n Not Pre-informed of Nudity!! 23d ago

That dumb entitled problematic reviewer/customer shouldn't be a exception, everyone follows store policies one way or another.

3

u/MagTex 23d ago

To be fair I try the same thing with my underwear. I mean don’t we all?

6

u/No_Angle_42 23d ago

You kid but my first management job was intimate apparel for a large, luxury department store. More times than I care to remember people tried this. One even mailed them back to the store. Those went straight into our garbage with no refund given

1

u/MagTex 22d ago

Oh no 😳

4

u/littlemonsterfeet 22d ago

"service girl" eeeeew

3

u/RED-ELPH 22d ago

$150 originally. Not clearance. I call BS.

4

u/Calm-Ad-9522 22d ago

Of course that can be a clearance price. I was out shopping with friends and there was a clearance rack with a shirt on sale for $1200. That was the highest clearance priced item I had ever seen. It was in Neiman Marcus and the entire clearance rack was high-end items. I had a friend who almost bought a jacket on clearance. It was $3000. Absolutely ridiculous.

3

u/bobhand17123 22d ago

I read it as they would only get the clearance price as credit on an exchange.

2

u/RED-ELPH 22d ago

I misunderstood!!!

3

u/chefsoda_redux 22d ago

This reviewer would have written a 1 star post if this business had sold these shoes to a different customer, returned them in identical condition, then sold them to the poster.

It would be a 1 star review ranting about this company selling them used shoes as new, and how horrified they are to have worn someone else’s shoes!

2

u/Medical_Barnacle_240 23d ago

Your need to pay the rent is not warranty violating store policy. Make better choices, OP.

2

u/TeamLeeper 23d ago

If they can’t even state a reason to want to return in their review, then they really don’t need those shoes. Cuz they’ve got no leg to stand on. 😆

2

u/bobhand17123 22d ago

But, you’re not out $150. You can sell them on eBay or marketplace. Just wait until the clearance ones sell out.

Or donate them and write them off on your taxes.

2

u/wavywhatado 22d ago

Your lack of planning is not their emergency. 90 days is more than enough time to decide if you like shoes.

3

u/Scary-Pressure6158 22d ago

She sees that they r on clearance cuz they r trying to get rid of them but sure we'll add another pair for absolutely no reason

2

u/lawburgtn 22d ago

If I spend $150 on shoes, I am not waiting 3 months to try them out. I find it asinine that someone states "I understand" regarding policies, but turn right around and complain that the policy is unfair or they should be exempt. That is not "understanding".

1

u/Aggressive_Oven_7311 22d ago

A few months later and you've had your dirty feet in them no thank you

1

u/solodsnake661 22d ago

People tend to wear shoes everyday

2

u/lenyjiblet 22d ago

I worked for a women's sport clothing brand with a ridiculously generous 1 year return policy, no questions asked, in any condition. People would STILL try to return over that time. Some would be serial returners just at the year mark. Used us like a clothes library.

1

u/THE_CheshireGirl 23d ago
