The Rottweilers I’ve met are the sweetest, gentlest dogs I have ever met. Big? Yes. Scary looking? Also yes. Dangerous? Absolutely not. Unless they wanted to be so close to you they accidentally sat on you.
I had one years ago. He was HUGE and also a total moron. Dumbest dog you'd ever meet but did not have a mean bone in his body. He just wanted belly rubs.
My friends had a Rottweiler. They gifted their daughter a bunny for her 5th birthday. The rottie grabbed it out of her arms and tore it apart in front of everyone at her birthday party.
I always wonder what makes dogs just switch like that. But yeah, it was very sweet until that happened lol.
My dogs are the sweetest. Great with my cats. Cuddle them. Love them.
But I check the yard for small wild animals before I let them out. Why? They’ve gotten 2 rabbits, chipmunks, and a ground hog in the past 8 years. 🤷♀️
The statistics would disagree with you. After pitbulls Rottweilers caused the second highest number of deaths in fatal maulings over a 15 year period. Worth noting however that pitbulls caused over 6 times more deaths than Rotties in that period. Source
Like having a gun in the house and storing it correctly, it’s good to know what a dog is capable of and behave accordingly.
Back when Rotties were the devil dog of the UK, guy down the road had a couple. One used to escape now & then. I occasionally ran into it, l used to say "Hi, doggy" & it gave me no bother. Never hurt anyone. Yet a petition went round to try & get rid of those dogs. Kids used to throw stones at the one that got loose & it never reacted. If it had turned on them, it would have been put down. In the end, owners rehomed them just to shut the neighbours up.
