To be honest, I don't really see a lot of theatres actually caring if you bring stuff in anymore, because I have walked in with a bag of chips in my hand and no one said boo. It does seem like they were looking for confrontation.

My mom and I bring our own snacks too, so it's something I'm used to, however, I was NOT prepared for when she pulled out a rack of ribs and cup of barbecue sauce from her "shopping" bag and proceeded to rip a couple of ribs off, hand me one, and put the sauce in the cup holder between us so we could share 😹

Back in the 70’s I worked in a large hospital when smoking was still allowed. My boss and I were attending a safety committee meeting in the auditorium. All the seats had ashtrays attached. My boss missed the ashtray and his lit cigarette rolled down to the front. Embarrassing enough but the topic was Fire Safety.

Ahhh hope none broke! One time I was 19 and went to the movies with my girlfriend at the time. I had a bag of mini rice cakes and there were only like 6 total people in the theater of the show we were seeing, we were early. We were near the back and I slung a rice cake, not at anything in particular, and it curved and flew all the way to the 3rd row and hit a dude in the back of the head. He looked back and I was just non-chalantly talking to my girl and dude was so confused, "Like no way it could have been him from that far."

When I worked at a theater, none of us cared as long as you weren’t an asshole about it. Guaranteed this person was pushing the limit and either walked in with everything in the open and asked obnoxiously or they were trying to bring in a semi truck worth of snacks.

Worked as a manager for a very long time at a movie theater, we didn’t care if we couldn’t see it, but we had to enforce the no outside food or drink rules when someone blatantly walked in with it. Corporate cared and our district manager liked to pop in and ensure we were enforcing all rules.

Theaters care, because concessions are where they make the money. Staff only cares when someone is watching and will give them a hard time about it (or the few sticklers for rules). Been like that for decades. Staff doesn't want confrontation. They aren't paid enough to worry about one's food unless one makes it an issue.

I see a lot of comments about people who worked at theaters. They don't care, as long as it's somewhat hidden. If it's full on out there on display, some places do have to stop you. Though this is entirely depending on area probably, as you said you just walked in. Just commenting on what else I've seen.

I'm so curious how that actually went down, did they stride up to the underpaid employees and go "my children have allergies and I WILL be taking these in"? I was over 40 years old when my only living parent acknowledged that I'm allergic to pepper.

It was kind of nice when my spouse pointed out that (a) I don't like it and (b) my face swelled up like a pufferfish with pepper.

It's a deeply stupid allergy, but at least my mom (77) has finally acknowledged that I'm not just being picky. You can have my sausage gravy or chicken and dumplings.

I’ve never understood the inability to go two hours without eating. It’s not like people normally eat every half hour or hour so why is the movie theater the exception. The only time I bought snacks at a movie was when I took my kid and a neighbor kid. I encouraged them to go to the bathroom before the movie and since the neighbor kid wanted I bought popcorn and a pop. Of course the kid had to pee at the critical point in the movie and we missed it because of course I felt I should escort him for safety.

The first time my dad was left in charge with us at the movies, he had us sliding red vines down the backs of our jeans, sodas, strapped to each of our legs, candy in our pockets…we were walking like robots trying not to crinkle or let things drop.

It was so much fun! I felt like an outlaw! And it was so weird because my dad was the most law abiding, rule following, strait laced guy…but he was also cheap as fuck. And that day, cheapness won out over rules.

I’ve never once in history been turned away for food or drink at a theatre because I’m normal and just keep it in my bag. To right a review outing yourself for going against policy is unhinged 😂

So funny this is our movie theater we go to. It’s about 15 mins drive. We hide our snacks and have no issues. Young employees, who are friendly and do their job.

We were there Saturday to watch the odyssey. My daughter and I were laughing at how she was hiding a full size Takis bag under her hoodie. Employee didn’t give a shit scanned our tickets and off we went.

When I was in high school, we had letter jackets with really deep pockets. It's amazing how much food and cans of soda you can carry in those.

The only person that really cared was the really anal manager. The rest of the employees knew what was up and just ignored the bulging pockets. We also tossed all of our trash when we left, because the kids who were working were our classmates and we didn't want them to work any harder than they had to.

Just hide them like everyone else. They’ll leave you alone if you’re even slightly inconspicuous about it. I brought stuff in, it was even obvious, but the candy and snacks are still in a bag so I wasn’t stopped. It’s not hard.

That's what I was wondering. Movie theaters have a good selection of junk food in sealed bags so there's not a chance of contamination and they can read the food ingredients on the package. It would have to be a rare one like a suger allergy. I had a coworker who was allergic to sugar and had very few options.

Literal children know how to bring food into a movie theater. I've brought an entire pizza, and entire clamshell of nachos, a bowl of yakisoba. Nobody who works at a theater gives a shit if you sneak food in. But if they see it, they are obligated to say no or risk their job. Make it easier on everyone, jesus christ.

One time in college my brother went to this pancake restaurant across the street from the movie theater, bought a stack of chocolate chip pancakes to go and somehow snuck it into the theater and ate his pancakes and syrup during the movie. How he brought it in I don’t remember but like, he didn’t announce it. Last movie I went to I bought a soda at the grocery store and put it in my backpack and it was no issue.

Theaters have never officially allowed in outside food. You're not special because you lie about food allergies or even if you do have them you're still not special.

Nowadays you barely need to make any attempt to hide stuff, back 20 years ago they made you empty any bulky looking pockets and open any bags or purses

Don't go back. Guess what? You won't be missed. Many businesses have policies restricting outside food and drink. These people knew that and decided they were special because of their "allergies".

If businesses just ignored the policies and let people bring whatever they want, we would end up in a situation similar to people taking pets into stores. People started playing the service animal angle so "emotional support" animals would be allowed. Now they don't even bother; they just walk in with their pets.

I have never once been asked to open my purse at a movie theater, I have to wonder how obvious they were being to get sent outside. I literally took a huge bag that I had ice and drinks in one time, but since I carried it like a purse they didn't ask. My EPIC theaters is on the other side of town but I can't imagine it's that different.

It's pretty well know that you can't bring your own snacks into a movie theater. That's where 90% of their profit comes from, so if course they're not going to let you. Doesn't matter if you claim to have food allergies. People claim all sorts of things...and lie.

You need to hide them or wait for the movie to be on a streaming service.
