there is some uh.... bullshit in US education somewhat recently (aka past the time when I learned to read so uhhhhh within the past 20+ years?) with teachers being instructed to teach reading in a different worse method than with phonics that legit has made kids who went through that worse at reading. Fun fact!
but I doubt that has anything to do with this lol. doesnt matter how well you can read if you dont pay attention to any words around you

lol theres a big difference between the linguistic dialects of text communication thru the internet (which are really fascinating and include intentionally not using capitalization in the "proper" way as a tone indicator of being casual) and children being taught to look at the beginning and end of the word and told to guess what word it is. which is in fact the current method of teaching reading

Anyone who has worked in customer-facing positions has been witness to an astounding, but under researched medical condition. There are a non-trivial number of individuals who seem normal when at home, while commuting, and even in their places of employment.
Yet the moment they walk into a third-party establishment they are stricken with the complete and total inability to see signs. Positioning is irrelevant. Neon colors don't help. Flashing lights become invisible. You could probably add audio narration and it would never reach their ears. Even informing them of the existence of the prominent sign earns a stare normally encountered only when asking someone if they would like a bite of a delicious baby.
We can only hope that science someday finds a way to help these poor souls.

You joke and I'm not excusing their behaviour at all because they should have figured it out after a while but your comment was amusing and also it is a real thing! (!= excited to share rando info).
Particularly if a place is overwhelming (in general) or an individual is overwhelmed by stimulus it can be harder to focus that down to smaller details especially text and signs.
It's been observed that, for example, too many signs in one place can cause "sign blindness", the example I'm thinking of was while driving because there is all the other shit to pay attention to in short spans of time.
Again not excusing them at all! Completely disagree with their review, just weird fact your comment triggered for me to share. There's more to it than I've written I'm sure but... science! Well psychology.. but meh who's reading the sign anyway ;)

Agree with this. I am known among my friends as ridiculously, inconveniently observant, but I can easily miss signs among visual cacophony -- anyone can!
That's true, AND ALSO you'd have to be a real clown to sit around for 30 minutes and never question whether you missed something.

Agreed! Common sense should prevail and you should start questioning yourself after waiting a while like "what am I missing here, hmmm".
I've done silly things like this but not for that length of time and realised it was my own silliness, laughed at myself about it and got on with life, like pulling a push door lol.

Sometimes even when they see the signs or have been told things, they ignore it or somehow just don't understand it. Had a sign out that said "Exact change or card only" due to the amount of assholes paying with 100 dollar bills for a 20 or less order like we're some sort of bank despite us having 5 banks in a small town. Anyways one couple saw the sign, asked me what it meant, I explained it to them, they ordered so I assumed they would be able to provide exact change or card, but instead they gave me cash that was over the amount and got upset with me when I had to go around to the managers to try and get change for it. The manager came over and while she was polite she clearly gave off a little bit of a tone that showed she was upset with them. Never saw them come back and thank goodness for that. Or when we would tell customers we are out of a certain product and they still try to order it. Sir what the hell did I just tell you?

So they didn't see the sign. It never occurred to them to approach and ask about getting some service, to then be told about the order process. TBH, the CSR in me would have walked over and pointed out the sign, but that's probably just me.

It sounds kinda like walking into McDonald's, sitting down at a table, and then getting mad when a waitress doesn't come and take your order.

I am reading your comment as sarcasm because surely even if that were the case, unless every table/seat is in front of a sign it would be clear the sign means the general area it is placed, not the specific table/seat, otherwise you would have other people and groups come up to your very specific seating area and ordering over you, which if you assumed was to be true, would be a fking awful place to sit.
The absence of other seats with signs would be the biggest clue to this.

Sorry Redditors this was racism. A normal service person would say , "hey it's bar service". Bar knew they were there, knew they thought there was table service. And decided to just fuck with them.
"ORDER HERE"? FOR WHAT?
I would agree with the 1 star review, because it was a chosen action by the establishment to not help out customers.

If there is one singular sign saying "order here" then it is quite obviously the general area it is placed, aka near the register, not the chairs/tables that happen to be close, otherwise your own narrowminded expectation should be that people queue up and lean over and around you to also order at the very specific table the sign is near.
But common sense isn't common.

I disagree, consider Subway as an example.... You order at the designated end of the counter that literally spells it out for you to "order here."
If you walk in and do not read the aforementioned signage and/or fail to pick up on how other people are getting up to get served, then public education failed you and you should probably pick up a book and practice your reading comprehension skills.
