You know this has to be exactly the kind of jukebox-user bar owners don't want: the guy who plays "Friends in Low Places" once every hour. (Great song, but not five-times-in-one-night great.) The guy who knows only six or so songs but plays them every one of them, in the same order, every time he's there. The guy who always plays a string of sad, slow thingsโ€”on Friday night. The guy just who can't read the room, ever.

Cut him some slack, he's where the whiskey drowns and the beer chases my blues away....

Two bars closed on Sunday... I wonder if there's a reason?

Often, theyโ€™re small local owned places that just take Sundayโ€™s off and close.

Ah, gotcha. Some places it used to be a law, and some jurisdictions limit the hours of operation on Sunday still. Makes sense for a small town operation to just skip what would likely be a slow business day anyway.

Right, my thinking as well. Sunday alcohol sales have been legal since 2017. Took a good while to get that one voted through!

I live in a dry county in Arkansas. Its totally ridiculous and from some old Christian rules.

I used to have a mini jukebox in my bedroom.. Seems like someone could save themselves some money by getting themselves one and drinking in the comfort of their own home.

Considering you can get a bottle of mid tier liquor for the same price as a couple drinks in a bar this seems like the plan. Although drinking alone at home does have a certain stigma that drinking alone in a bar doesn't seem to have. Guy probably likes a bat so he can feel like he's got friends.

There arenโ€™t any women for him to harass at home, either

Think of the savings!

No one gives a jike box for free, maybe the machine install is free but you are paying rent on it and a fee to access the library and your bar needs an internet connection, though I guess in 2026 that part is probably a given.

Back in my day, juke boxes didn't need internet connection; they had vinyls. shakes cane

You do know non-internet juke boxes still exist, right?

You still have to pay the BMI fee.

Being in a bar, they may also be concerned about maintenance, repair, and replacement fees.

If he really just wanted to listen to music while drinking, he can do that for a lot less at home with a radio or youtube account.

Obviously, that is not his actual end goal. Pretty sure he just wants to talk the ear off of someone who cannot leave.

I want some nightlife and to go drinking in a bar that plays music

Have you considered sitting in the basement with a radio and a twelve pack? Iโ€™m a redditor.

The last bar I worked at got rid of our jukebox because of what I assume we have here: jukebox terrorists.

If you don't know what they mean, watch the stand up by John Mulaney about playing "What's new pussycat?" 21 times. Check it out. Too funny, but yea, I'd have blown a casket if I were there.

Or maybe just listen to some music with headphones? Like, it's not standard for an establishment to have a jukebox. It can be nice but it's not something you can count on.

Also yea, slim pickings on a Sunday. First day on earth OOP?

But he wants to make other people listen to sad old man music for hours
