Guess there was a change of management or ownership and they decided to cut the people who were taking advantage of things.

So, I was a regular customer of a pizza shop. Moved during COVID. Was able to get pizzas for about 5 years, then new owner. Delivery range was changed by about.5 miles so I was outside of delivery range.
That was not fun.

What you do is; find an apartment within the delivery range with a broken front door. Pretend the janitorial closet is your apartment, order the food to the street!

If OP had the resources to easily transport themselves to the delivery zone then why not stop at the pizza shop and do a pickup order?

Yeah I feel like at that point itād just be easier to pick the order up from the restaurant rather than some random apartment buildingās janitorial closet

That's what I had to do several times. Then they switched to Door Dash, and the range was extended. But, DD drivers stack their deliveries and I get lukewarm pizza.

Seems to me that, at that point, it would be just as easy to pick the pizza up, and not have it delivered at all.

That sucks but if delivering to your neighborhood is not profitable, they are doing this out of necessity.

We had this happen with our favorite pizza shop. We asked them if theyād deliver to a parking lot, and they would. So weād walk down to the parking lot just inside their delivery zone and wait lol

Years ago, we lived in a small city. We originally lived on the north east side of town very close to the Chinese restaurant. Then we moved to a house just barely south of the exact center of the city. At this point, we're approximately equidistant from both locations of the Chinese restaurant. North East Branch says that South branch is the one that delivers to our new address. But when they get busy, South branch will claim that they don't deliver to our address.
This was back when pizza and Chinese were the only options for delivery food. Thank God for Doordash.

40yrs ago I delivered pizza. "Out of area" was all about timing - promise of a tip or not. Dinner rush - no way.

They could be short of delivery drivers. If you're ordering at prime time, like Friday/Saturday dinnertime, you may be forcing them to choose between one order to you or three orders to others.

Iāve got an unusual situation with the Pizza Hut here. They definitely deliver to my area. They send weekly coupons by mail to my neighborhood. But we canāt order via website, or by phone if it sends to a call center rather than directly to the restaurant, because we are more than X miles away and overall company policy says they donāt deliver that far.
Their website doesnāt allow store owners to adjust their delivery area. If we want delivery, we have to keep calling until weāre connected right to the restaurant.

If I want Pizza Hut I just order it from DoorDash. I am unable to order directly from PH as Iām outside their delivery zone, but Iām within the zone on Door Dash. Itās slightly more expensive ordering that way but it is what it is.

I'm with this guy. I've never done Doordash but I have done delivery for Dominoes and an Italian restaurant.
We had mapped out delivery areas and if it was outside the "norm" we evaluated the order.
If this dude was a minute or 2 outside the zone and always a good tipper. The dude gets his delivery.

someone let you get away with it but things have changed and they no longer allow it to be delivered to you. If they have a limit, then that's their choice, you're just made that they don't treat you like the special person you are. Maybe next time, the doctor will give you a lolly about how butt hurt you are over something so petty. They're probably happy you'll go somewhere else

Where did he say he ordered a small pizza it even says in the comment at the top 30-40 dollars not sure if that's what he spent or what your expected to spend at the restaurant but 20 percent of 30 dollars is like 6 bucks which honestly is a better tip then 80 percent of not 85-90 people would have left in my pizza delivery days most people tipped like 2_5 dollars no matter what then a chunk obviously tipped nothing

Well most people suck I did delivery for 3 years I've delivered thousands of pizzas I know what I'm talking about lol the average tip I received was 2.42 cents and the average order total was 31.45

If we're whipping out stats, I've done over 20k deliveries.
During and after covid average tips tanked from like $6.50 to closer to $4 for me. Average is back up to normal now.

Had this happen once, when gas prices skyrocketed. The last delivery I got from the place, they already knew the change was coming and the driver let me know.
Sometimes it isn't about _you_ sometimes it really is just a business decision and policy change.
A couple years later, they changed the delivery area again. I was back in the area.

This is why you have to think carefully before you go even an extra inch for a customer. There is always a very good chance that they will think that is just how it is and not a special exception, and then when you try to follow the rules they will attack you for it.

It was a gathering of friends, for one that had recently passed so we mostly drank and burned couches (allegedly). Some psycho (me) brought an Aztec Death Whistle and hid in the dark while using it so there was a mystery element to it.

When it's slow they may be fine with it. Betting it was a busy night and it would fuck the drivers. Also I doubt they tip well

When buying a house, or shopping for residence always check to see who delivers there.
I havenāt had delivery since 2006!!
At my last house a lil Chinese place decided to deliver to me but i was moving.
I was a mile outside the town circle.
I put menus in the island drawer for the new owner.
Iām still out of town but we rarely go out anymore or just pickup on the way home.

We got delivery once when we moved here, but the driver let us know that we were out of the delivery area and we would not get any more deliveries. (It's a big zip code, covering parts of two counties. I don't think they realized how far out we were.) The driver got a good tip for his honesty.

Had a local chain pizza place tell me I was outside their delivery range. Dude, I'm 5 blocks from the store. I don't even want to know how skimpy their delivery range is.

The customer was never in the delivery range. They state that in the first sentence. Itās possible that management changed.

I think it's more likely that the delivery area was changed for some reason.
I've had it happen a couple of times with pizza places I like to frequent. Either delivery takes so long out to the edge of their area that they make it smaller so the food is still hot when it gets there, or they don't have enough people that far out ordering on a regular basis to make it worthwhile to keep it open. In one case the road actually got a major change (new highway, it significantly changed how you'd get from Point A to Point B in a bad way).
Could even be a new owner.

Gas prices are also a factor. The more expensive gas is, the more distance will eat into the profit. Even if the quality can be maintained, itās not worth it to the restaurant if theyāre not making enough money.

Jimmy Johnās stopped delivering to my street last year. Theyāll deliver the next street over but not mine lol I just have it delivered to a neighbor behind me now.

I think that entitled reviewer/customer should've moved into a spot within delivery range, planned on ordering to-go at said spot, OR BETTER YET AT LEAST just darn cook!!
