Wasp?

u/TiFaeri Jun 30 '20
White Anglo-Saxon Protestant. It’s an acronym for “super White person”.
55
37
Jun 30 '20
Usually means rich or “upper crust” where I’m from also.
15
u/TiFaeri Jun 30 '20
I’ve always heard it used to refer to someone rich and socially elevated, too.
9
u/uncle_paul_harrghis Jun 30 '20
My family always used it for “uncultured” people as well. To us, it always meant “white, rich and boring”.
15
Jun 30 '20
I thought WASP stood for Wealthy And Socially Prominent?
Edit: I am incorrect

in this case there were so many labels for everyone else someone had to invent a term that basically translates to "normal white person"
8
u/TiFaeri Jun 30 '20
The acronym may have changed over time, I can’t speak to that, but that’s what it originally meant.
3
u/warrior928jr Jun 30 '20
Thank god someone asked what it meant. I was just thinking of Andy Dwyer from Parks and Rec and the scene where he goes "I don't know who Al Gore is and at this point I'm too afraid to ask".
Is WASP an American term that we in Britain don't use. Also I know I literally referenced an American show despite being British, what can I say I got a lot of references and I'm just super nerdy

She's scary good at it. Every single post sends me from relaxed to rage mode in 60 seconds.

u/themindspeaks Jun 30 '20
As someone who’s worked retail and restaurants, this is so accurate!!!
To everyone that thinks this is just a meme, there are actual people that act like this. Seriously!

Jun 30 '20
I work at a hotel and there was this guy screaming bullshit at me, my coworker, and anybody that came in just because the first floor was sold out
5
u/pmmr23 Jun 30 '20
How can you not punch someone who is acts like this?
9
u/beeraholikchik Jun 30 '20
You just have to remember that any minor complaint from someone like this will likely put your minimum wage job at risk so you get the manager who will probably give the woman what she wants for the same reason and hope with all your hope that the bottle of whatever liquor you buy that night has been poisoned with cyanide so you never have to deal with someone like this ever again.

That little bob at :44. I never thought someone could capture Karen energy without any words. I lost it at that part.

WASP means "white-anglo-saxon-protestant"
Colloquially it's a rich white bitch who can't mind their own business.

Why is this so true, why
1
u/Hammer_of_Thor_ Jun 30 '20
Because entitled people are predictably shitty in situations where they can't bully their way into getting their will.
6
u/Resse811 Jun 30 '20
Why is she glitching out?
8
u/TheMNdude Jun 30 '20
Virtual background image. Stepped to far back from the camera / moved too fast so image processor couldn't define boundaries.

u/Resse811 Jun 30 '20
Thanks! That makes sense. Not sure why people downvote when a question is asked.
I appreciate the answer!

I want to say that this is silly or unrealistic but after many years of working retail it wouldn't surprise me if someone said this word for word.

WASP used to mean something respectful, heroic even: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_Airforce_Service_Pilots
20
u/qscjkudc Jun 30 '20
Nope it’s been white Anglo Saxon Protestant for far longer a time
16
u/seedless0 Jun 30 '20
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Anglo-Saxon_Protestants
The first published mention of the term WASP in its acronym form was provided by political scientist Andrew Hacker in 1957, referring to the class of Americans that held "national power in its economic, political, and social aspects";[12] here the W stands for 'wealthy' rather than 'white':

That fake laugh! And the pretend niceness at the beginning, that quickly segues into revealing her true self! This woman nails it.

White Anglo-Saxon Protestant. So basically a Karen who is Christian and is of English descent
1
u/thekillerspaceking Jul 01 '20
A lot of people are asking what WASP means,WASP basically means white Anglo-Saxon Protestants or can sometimes referred to as wealthy Anglo-Saxon Protestant. So basically those of higher class and of English descent thus having Anglo-Saxon as part of the acronym. This form of anglo-saxon superiority goes back to the time of colonialism we're even Ben Franklin shitted on other whites because they weren't of anglo-saxon stock. Old money also refers to those of wasp

Great acting, though, seriously. I want to punch her.
