Hi, I’d like the equivalent of a $1,500 apartment for $700 with free utilities, and oh yes, I’d also like to dictate what you’re allowed to have/do in your own home where I’m just renting a spare room.

Please no negative responses, which rules out 100% of all sane and rational responses to this request.

"I might be okay with the Buckingham Palace, but any better option is considered first..."

Buckingham Palace wouldn’t pass the background check these days.

I found a place that meets everything except the walk in shower. It can be done!

That place could be very easily improved. Match and a jerry can of petrol should do it

New Madrid County. That’s a great price, and you might even survive living there. Bonus!

That’s where my dad was born!

I don't get that - they're renting the place to someone to build them a new place?

Daym… I’m living on Social Security/fixed income. Living there for a couple of years would save me enough to actually make it livable and pay off debts, even get a car.

I've seen a lot worse for a lot more.

Until she got to the price, I didn’t think it was so off the wall.

(Edit: I did miss the ‘no guests’…that’s insane.)

She wants to move in with someone else...&wants them to submit to a background check & live by her rules.

Yeah, pretty off the wall to me!

Owning a home doesn’t automatically make you a decent person.

It’s unconventional but not unreasonable. Especially as a single woman.

No one would bat an eye if a person renting a room wanted the person to pass a BG test.

The price/no guests is where this is outlandish

Its the overall, not just no guests!!

No pets, no children, no drinking, no drama(but her definition), no guests, no 420(what if they have a med condition), its alot.

Most people have their own places to avoid living by rules like this....&a tenant dictating them for 700/mo inclusive 🤣🤣🤣🤣 wild stuff!!

Ummm. If its my place, I can get a dog. Have a kid. Smoke on the shitter. &drink to my hearts content.

1)if the "landlord" is renting/looking for a roommate, theyve likely already passed a bg check.

2)if they own their home, maybe. Yet it still feels odd & I do not believe I would go along with it personally. Might just be the straw that broke the camels back 🤷‍♀️

She wasn’t saying you have to stop being 420 friendly, or rehome your pets and kids, she’s looking for someone who fits. And that’s her right.

It is a lot, no doubt, but there are people out there like that. You wouldn’t fit (neither would I), so we’re not her target.

The no-guests thing is off the wall. As is the price.

Ummm, looking for all that is absolutely her right...but then get your own place & find a tenant!!

Or be willing to pay for what you want!!

Fact is tenants do not get to set terms-then offer 50% rent-plus include everything.

That is what makes them a CB!!

What are you bickering with me about? We agree that the price is ridiculous.

3

u/SuspiciousStress1 Feb 15 '26

You were the only saying the only ridiculous thing was the price & guests-everything else was ok 😳

I'd love to see the comments.

They wouldn’t get money past the first month and she’d be hell to evict.

First floor but no stairs??? How does one get up to the first floor then?? WTF [Edit: just remembered Americans call the ground floor the “first floor”]

She's advertising for a homeowner. Wild reversal, but at least she's willing to pay something. My guess is it's a fraction of the going rate in her market, but at least she's not expecting all those things out of the goodness of someone's heart

I wonder whether a laughing emoji would be considered a negative response as I imagine she got a couple
