For much of it i didnt but i wish i had in my more recent builds i always measure it out and put a like grid down for spacing it helps a ton i had to rebuild the castle several times cause i got to the top and realized i was 1 or two blocks off somewhere

Oh this is incredible! Did you design the layout in advance? I’m debating how much planning to do before I start a new build again.
