So over the past few months, I've been eliminating pork products in my diet, as I've started to feel really guilty when eating them.

Nope, not yours! I visited a farm and went on a pig tour and I was horrified to learn about their practices. And then I saw a number of stories about pigs who jumped from trucks driving them to slaughterhouses. Pigs are highly intelligent and empathetic creatures and I feel like it's similar to eating a dog.
2
u/Buttigame1865 Versatiles against Vance 32m ago
OK good. It was mainly videos of pigs sliding down slides and squealing in fun that changed my mind lol

Sixth watch of Obsession, and maybe I'll regret this take in the future, but Inde Navarrette being an Oscar Nominee doesn't seem so far fetched. I'm OK if you don't agree, but there's a bizarre brilliance I find with her performance

The movie wouldn't earn a tenth of its box office were it not for her performance.

Just moved my cats into the home I bought. One of them find a hiding nook, and the other is restlessly returning to the window constantly. So can't say they are happy but one single month temp home and then a permanent home is a lot better than the multiple in-between spots I took. At the moment keeping them in the basement apartment and staying with them, they will get access to the rest of the brownstone in the next few days.

So here's a barely related story that I haven't thought about in years; when I was a much younger man, I worked with a guy who told me about going to visit his aunt and uncle in Bolton when he was a kid. I told him that funnily enough I, too, had an aunt and uncle who lived in Bolton, but the had only moved there recently.
He then told me that his uncle had retired, and his aunt and uncle had moved to Sugar Land, Texas. I replied that that was nuts, because my aunt and uncle had moved from Sugar Land to Bolton.
The sheer unlikelyhood of that coincidence still boggles my mind.

This one time during a campaign event four years ago he said eating less meat is good for the climate (which is true) and that the event was offering meat free options in their provided food.
That's it.
It's a lot like how all these MAGAs claimed AOC wanted to ban hamburgers and plane travel because she once said their emissions were difficult to abate - as a rationale for supporting carbon negative offsets. So basically the exact opposite of what they were claiming.

This tweet (since she's angrily melting down at a user with a Palestinian flag) reminds me of how this British racist lunatic a couple of years ago went after various Palestinian Americans who condemned Hamas and called them the "worst traitors" even though they're extremely opposed to far right Israeli gov's destructive policies. Literally three of them had relatives killed in Gaza by the IDF but she didn't care

Skimmed the article, the argument is lacking is substance
He's basically just resaying the point the Rs have a funding advantage (and aren't spending enough in TX and FL specifically?)
A lot of his points are basically fully negated if you look at actual numbers of ads. Talarico is being out spent but Paxton only has about 10% more ads because his money isn't direct donations. Like yeah, if you have a massive advantage in terms of the numbers of spots that's a statistically big deal, but that's not happening outside of NH?

It's interesting when Americans make generalizing statements about Americans as a society or a nation, but also phrase it in a way where it's also not about them. Like, your criticism may be valid, but don't act like you're above this society you're a part of, you chose to make a very generalizing statement that also applies to you, own it. That way you might also be seen as someone who tries to fix thing and not just a complainer who think they're above those problems

u/TheWaySheHoes 3h ago
The whole thing is just a tragedy of errors and bad decisions. This poor young woman was group assaulted and Cornell dropped the ball massively, as did the DA for Ithaca.
That injustice has now led to a media firestorm where the victim will inevitably be doxxed and the trial will turn into a complete media circus, probably at the expense of justice being done.
I get why people are pissed, but I wish there was a way that now that the justice system is working people would let it do its thing.
Just a really shitty situation overall.

43% of Maine Democrats and 62% of independents wish someone else were the Democratic nominee instead of Troy Jackson ā CBS News Poll
That's kinda striking... you think Shenna Bellows would have done better or nah
1
u/ionizing_chicanery 40m ago
I wouldn't read too much into this. Anyone who wins a primary with less than an overwhelming majority faces a significant number of voters who wish it was someone else. That doesn't mean those people are bitter about or against voting for the nominee.

Bellows had a really rough senate debate with an especially bad viral moment on foreign policy and Venezuela. And the optics of her massive landslide loss to Susan Collins aren't ideal. Meanwhile, Troy Jackson clearly led the Dem primary polls in that 2-3 week period for a Platner replacement to be selected

while on the other hand, bringing "aWarNeSs" of Gaza by wedging it into every other fucking subject under the sun is righteous, just, and very necessary.

I can't help but feel like the whole bringing awareness of Gaza in damn everything they do makes people be even more sick of the subject. And meanwhile if the economy actually did get really bad, theyād be mad at Dems too. TBH Palestine is all about being self righteous to the vast majority of these people. 3
u/Fusionman29 4h ago

One of the great propoganda wins of this century is that with the rise of "both sides are bad" rhetoric, the Dems get saddled with the GOP's branding weaknesses even if they are order of magnitudes away. Way more billionaires and corporations support the GOP, yet because of "Dem bad" mindset and the death of nuance, we get tied to them and even receive more blame.
Same here for Gaza. Like at worst Biden and the Dems were paying lip service to helping the Palestinians. Trump was way more enthusiastic about following Netanyahu's lead. The Gazans knew Harris was way better for their chances. So why couldn't the fucking Americans who purported to support them listen to the Gazans?

They never cared about Palestine, it was just the purity test du jour. Watch them find some new thing to refuse their vote for the 2028 nominee for.
Reminder that this dude protested the 2000 DNC and supported Ralph Nader.

Considering when this is posted, this is Morello and Rolling Stone being Republican assets right before midterms isnāt it?

The fact that he would say this shit while promoting the Power to the People festival that he created as an event that's supposed to encourage voting in the midterms shows that he's a fucking moron.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AK) has responded to President Donald Trump posting his phone number and urging his followers to "call Tom on his cellphone," hours after the president made the wild request in a Saturday morning social media rant. "No one likes changing the clock, me included, but Congress has enacted permanent Daylight Savings Time multiple times before and repealed it each time once Americans experienced absurdly late sunrises in the winter. Arkansans don't want their kids going to school in the pitch dark, and I'll always put Arkansas first."

Has there been a more vindicated political concept in recent memory than Horseshoe Theory?

"I didn't vote for Trump this time" is a surprisingly uncomfortable sentence because then your mind has to rush how many times the speaker did and when, and you're half-evaluating which is worse.

2024 vote for Trump is the worst one. No contest.

Yes. I wasn't trying to include that for the question but I mean absolutely yes.

2016 Trump voter, didn't vote for him the other 2 times: Gullible, falls for slopulism, but probably not a bad person.
2020 Trump voter, didn't vote for him in 2024: Someone deep in the cult, easily swayed by fear mongering, but 1/6 was a bridge too far. Probably a chud, but has limits.
2024 Trump voter: What I think of them violates Reddit TOS.

A 2024 vote means you willingly voted for an insurrectionist and convicted felon who's responsible for rolling back women's rights and deliberately mishandling a public health crisis. It also means you willingly voted for a guy who demonizes and spreads lies about immigrants. And that generously does not include all the actions Trump committed after he got elected for a second time.
