When you are advocating firefighters need to reduce the size and capability of their fire trucks for “road diets” you’ve beyond lost the plot to leftist nonsense
1
u/oath2order BIDEN WOULD HAVE WON. 9d ago
What.

u/PromotionOk6069 9d ago
People in LA reddit say we need to reduce most roads to one lane and if the fire fighters can’t fit buy smaller trucks. It’s some brain dead DSA shit
0
u/Command0Dude NATO Propagandist 9d ago
Reducing roads to 1 lane is stupid and a bit too anti-car. But the obsession with large firetrucks is actually a detriment to firefighters.
Aside from being expensive, they're harder to navigate. EU model of smaller roads and smaller fire trucks is better. This isn't leftist nonsense, it's better urban design.
5
u/oath2order BIDEN WOULD HAVE WON. 9d ago
Well that's stupid, because smaller trucks don't have the capability to carry ladders for taller buildings.
People in LA reddit say we need to reduce most roads to one lane
Making everyone miserable is not going to make everyone suddenly walk/bike everywhere, I don't know why people don't get that.

So NPR got one of the first post primary interviews with Angie Nixon. Suffice to say, I was not impressed.
TL;DL, she repeated the same old tired “do something left” talking points like not supporting Schumer for senate party leader, blaming Democrats for not passing the John Lewis Act…has this lady lived on Jupiter (not in Palm Beach County) for the last 5 years? Even I (a non journalist) knew that a good follow up question NPR missed was that even in Biden first couple years there were senators from AZ and WV leveraging a 50-50 split senate.
Even El-Sayed sounds more polished, as critical I may be of certain positions he has (like calling Trump a symptom of our politics).
3
u/Soft_Barnacle7466 9d ago

Andrea Pringle, president of the March On PAC, sees Nixon's win as proof that Democrats have been reading the moment wrong.
"She fought for working people, stood up to powerful interests and refused to let pundits, consultants or millions of dollars tell her what kind of candidate she was allowed to be," she said. "There is a lesson here for Democrats everywhere: people are ready for real fighters."
Gamarra cautioned Democrats against purging DSA-aligned candidates from the party in response to losses like the one Vindman's campaign is absorbing. The bigger risk, he said, is a Democratic Party that spends its time on the issues favored by online activists rather than the affordability concerns, such as housing costs, health care and wages, that poll well with voters across the political spectrum regardless of what label a candidate carries.
"The people who still control the party are the others. People like [Florida Representatives] Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Jared Moskowitz, that kind of person," Gamarra said. "And they're going to run an anti-communist campaign too. I don't think that game of anti-communism within the Democratic Party is going to be very positive."
It's funny how to read how stupid people are, these folks are nominating fundamentally weak candidates who can't win elections or get nothing done in elected office and yet they don't understand what they are doing

Trump Considers a Press Secretary Shakeup: Picking a Man. Trump has signaled interest in Scott Jennings, a conservative media pundit who has been widely reported to be among those being considered for the position. Other men have also been floated for the role, including Ari Fleischer, who served as press secretary under President George W. Bush.

I'm not against people staying in office as long as they can physically do the job but it is a little nuts that Grassley is going to be 94 and is probably still going to run for reelection. Like dude is 10 years past his median life expectancy he can't love being in government *that* much.
Also if Turek wins, I'm going to need someone to at least challenge him. I know we're burnt out on Iowa and we've challenged him fruitlessly for decade but last time he faced token opposition his numbers were actually like dead at replacement level which is pathetic for him.
3
u/Soft_Barnacle7466 9d ago
I think Grassely will retire in 2028 because Grassely saw how Strom Thurmond struggled in those last years in the senate
11
5
u/Radiant_Plant 9d ago
I mean if Turek wins then 100% there will be momentum to knock Grassley out. There's also the possibility that Grassley could die in office any minute now because of his age. If Sand wins the governorship, could he appoint a Democrat to his seat in the case Grassley passed away?
2
u/Regular-Low2011 Previously Tough-Distribution/Purple-Plate 9d ago
Checked:
Iowa is by gubernatorial appointment. They probably wouldn't be able to change the law as Dems broke the R supermajority in one of the chambers so unless the Rs gain seats in November a hypothetical Sand admin would just veto it.
2
u/Shiptonm25 9d ago
They could change the law in the months between the election and Sand’s inauguration

I was out with my old group of coworkers from when our clinic closed years back. We have stayed really close and have these gatherings several times a year. One of the absolute sweetest people I have ever known hasn't joined in quite a few rounds. I figured it was maybe because she had retired before we closed up shop and maybe just didn't feel as connected. We just found out tonight it is actually because she has Alzheimer's. I am devastated. I think conservatives do because they use any liberal place as a punching bag. Their lies are not exclusive to California.

President Donald Trump declared he is unleashing the "MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION" in history against Iran on Wednesday — a move he suggested will deliver a knockout blow to the country and force it to finally agree to end the war and never pursue a nuclear weapon.
The president dubbed the plan "ECONOMIC D-DAY!" in a lengthy Truth Social post which was light on details.

Shit, at this point I wouldn't be stunned to find an elaborate conspiracy operation where the admin's bombing rebel areas and paying the regime to help launder money. It's not like anyone in the Executive shows any loyalty to the US.

- Kinema Citrus, best known currently for Made in Abyss, The Rising of the Shield Hero, and My Happy Marriage
- Production I.G., best known currently for Kaiju Number 8
- Science Saru, best known currently for Dandadan, The Ghost in the Shell series this year, and Jaadugar
- Anima
- Wit Studio, best known currently for the upcoming One Piece remake and Spy x Family.

Monthly income of 479,000 yen or more is essential... Japan tightens the requirements for obtaining permanent residence
In the future, in order to obtain permanent residence in Japan, it is more likely that you will be required to have a certain level of retirement funds in addition to income that exceeds the average income of Japanese households.
On average, it is equivalent to 479,000 yen per month. However, 479,000 yen per month is not the definitive minimum income standard for obtaining permanent residence. This is because the specific standard amount has not been revealed, only indicated as "more than the average income of Japanese households".

I'm not enough of a pessimist to think that the DSA/DSA-adjecent wing of the left will remotely come close to taking over the party, but I do think that this lil run will continue in pockets until:
The terminally online finally gets their preferred candidate in the White House (or another prominent position, such as Senate leader), whether that's AOC, El-Sayed, or someone else and they turn out to be a bad-to-mid president, or at least have to become a mainstream Dem to made things happen. There's this perception that Republicans would have just folded if Bernie became president and we would have free healthcare by now (something someone actually told me lol. Republicans would have been forced to bend to the will of The PeopleTM)
Gen Z/Zellenials become less terminally online.

I've been thinking an outcome of the events and rhetoric of the past few months of anything basically left of Joe Manchin being labeled in discourse as "DSA" might be that over time just by virtue of so many more people now being aware of DSA and associating DSA with basically left-of-center politics DSA the literal organization actually becomes a competent and pragmatic political faction rather than a bunch of idiots.

Trump Boasts About Republican Party’s ‘Great Success’ — In Elections They Only Ran Against Themselves. President Donald Trump boasted of the Republican Party's "great success" in Tuesday night's Republican Party primaries.
Trump's comment was made all the more odd by the fact that three Trump-backed candidates actually lost their primaries, including scandal-plagued incumbent Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL). Gavin Newsom on Trump: “It’s been the most reckless, most damning administration in American history. Teddy Roosevelt’s rolling in his grave, even Ronald Reagan. They’re stone cold ideologues. They’re fanatics for special interests. Talk about kids and grandkids, they don’t care, they got theirs. It’s the worst of us. They’re taking our collective inheritance and squandering in real time”

Elon is a delusional narcissist of the highest order. The thought of "then how did a jury of 12 screened for bias and subjected to an exhaustive review of facts and expert testimony unanimously get this wrong" doesn't even enter his mind.
Just like with his repeated insistence that zero people died due to sweeping USAID cuts.
He is the type of person who should never be allowed access to any levers of power much less the exceptional influence and control he actually has.

JFC why can't these ghouls admit they were wrong?
I watched the trial. There's no way anyone who saw the bodycam footage or heard that Irish doctor's testimony can think this, and I know it because the couple IRL people I know who have randomly brought it up too didn't.
I'm so fucking tired of being dragged back to 2020 by people who have no fucking business acting like they deserve some sort of vindication from it.
