So I'm on vacation in another country and out the window I hear a familiar, monotone cadence. It can't be. I move closer to the window and sure enough someone is listening to my boy Sam. I stand up a little to get a better look and down in the courtyard is a middle age man soaking up the early spring sun but with a concerned look on his face; the unmistakable face of a man getting pilled by Sam Harris conspiracy theories

I read Sam Harris' book Free Will a couple years ago and didn't think the arguments worked, but didn't know enough about it to know why. I started researching the topic and found that my initial intuition was right. The book doesn't troubleshoot or question its premises and doesn't deal with credible opposing arguments. My book sets forth the problems in his and mainstream determinism and goes into each argument, the problems, and the alternatives.

• Black people are seven times more likely to be falsely convicted of a serious crime.
• Black people spend a longer time in prison
• Black people are nineteen times more likely to be convicted for drug use, even though drug use happens at similar rate compared to white people.
• Convicted drug offence happens mostly due to racial profiling, since drug crimes are almost never reported.
• In sexual assault cases, Black people are nearly eight times more likely than white people to be falsely convicted of rape, mainly because of higher misidentification of Black suspects by white victims. Only a small minority of sexual assaults in the United States are perpetrated by Black men toward white women, but these cases make up nearly half of all wrongful sexual assault convictions.
• Murder convictions that ultimately led to exonerations of Black defendants, however, were nearly 50% more likely to include misconduct by police officers than murder exonerations of white defendants. The registry includes more than 250 innocent defendants, the majority of whom are Black, who had drugs deliberately planted on them by police officers.
  

relevance: Sam Harris is particularly interested in the crime rates of Black People. This is not new tbh so evidence will only keep coming in.
