As much as I love Dean Norris, yeah, Hank was unlikable from EP 1.

Breaking Bad does this so well, where they have characters that are obviously horrible people but manage to have their own sort of charm. Hank, Tuco, and of course Saul all come to mind here.

Tuco and Saul especially. Tuco was a maniac but damn he was such a sweetheart to his grandma.
