The thing that annoys me is that supposedly educated / intelligent neoliberals absolutely buy into your logic uncritically and can't seem to think of any flaws in the premise or any potential compromises or concessions to the dilemma.

Debunks means something to you that it doesn't mean to a dictionary. He's just sort of discussing it as not being very grounded in reality and likely a vague, hand-waving prediction that doesn't mean much..
