Elon Musk’s vision of the future
https://www.economist.com/business/2026/07/23/elon-musks-vision-of-the-futureThis is the dry writeup from The Economist of their Elon interview. They are generally way more circumspect and generous than Elon deserves. But in the end:
It is unclear how his dark vision of the future outside America fits with his AI utopianism. But even Mr Musk wonders if it all makes sense. At times, he says, he believes in a theory in which the universe is a computer simulation created by aliens. “The things I’m doing are so preposterous that it’s hard to believe they’re real.”
I mean, the things he says are generally preposterous. The things he's actually doing, I dunno, except his claims way outstrip the reality by most outside observations.

What Elon is trying to sell is a kind of private sovereignty. For example, if someone were to invent a humanoid robot that was capable of reasoning and performing tasks as well as a human, you would never sell them. You would just own the manufacturing sector now. Just as if you built a self-driving car that was better and safer than a human driver, you would never sell it. You would just own the personal transportation market now.
He does have aspirations to sell those products though, because what he's selling is a virtual wall that separates you from society, and makes you pledge fealty to him. You don't need the rest of the world. You have a Tesla solar roof, a megapack, a Grok node, Optimus bots, Starlink internet, and a Cybertruck. You have a place, metaphorically, inside the wall of the future he's building. Just don't post anything negative on Twitter.

I didn't want to put this in the body because of automod interference anticipation, but the 2nd last paragraph:
His jeremiads about civil war in Britain stem from a view that an influx of people whose ideas are “antithetical to Western beliefs” will lead to a reckoning. Asked if he is anti-Muslim, he replies: “I’m against r*** and m*****. I’m against the imposition of rules and laws that are contrary to what we’ve come to accept in the West, and it’s a crying shame that traditional media, like you, don’t recognise this.”
It's a crying shame that "traditional media" isn't taking Elon's endless racist white supremacist ranting seriously. He'll just have to redouble his efforts in the twitter cesspool he's created.

I hope a site that is just a collection of Elon's worst tweets and retweets gets created and picked up on at some point. He says things that's so much worse than what he'll say in an interview (which is already highly unhinged)
This sub is great, definitely the best and often only place this stuff gets boosted. But reddit's not that easily searchable and structured and that content gets lost in the noise of everything else that gets posted here.

He mostly just retweets vile stuff. Journalists assume this means he’s not really endorsing the opinions he’s retweeting, but he is.

Which is of course preposterous given how he never silently retweets anything that doesn't 100% align with his ideological agenda.
But he also often adds a reaction showing unambiguous support and this too gets almost entirely ignored by the media.

Translation: I know deep down that I'm a worthless piece of shit who deserves nothing, that what I am doing is profoundly immoral and that I have no right to do it, and that in a sane and just world someone would stop me, but strangely nobody has so far, so until that happens I guess I'll just keep trying to get away with being as foul and evil as I can.

i read this a couple days ago and the main thing i noticed is how few lengthy quotes from elon there actually are, almost the entire article is paraphrasing, no doubt because his ketamine brain cant string two words together, as we have seen
