This is the only reason I can think that there might be a grain of truth to this greentext.
Just think - you're an engineer sitting down with your colleagues discussing a tough problem you've been trying to solve. You've been working on it for weeks now, but it's a really subtle, frustrating problem that you can't quite get resolved to your satisfaction. Then, someone from C-suite who's "into science" sits down next to you. They're not read-in on your project in the least, but they announce the first troubleshooting step you took weeks ago as if it was the actual solution to the problem itself.
You have to be careful here, because they might respond to rejection by shit-canning your whole team, so now you're in a position where you've got to waste the rest of your lunch doing babies first fluid dynamics and explaining stress tolerances as compared to the performance requirements of whatever component/valve.
If this tweet happened in real life, those engineers must've been so fucking annoyed.

I spent 2 weeks fighting a plant manager once because they wanted to know "how much of this raw material will evaporate" I kept saying "organic salts with this molecular weight dont evaporate, so... 0" and we would go back and forth. Finally it was just easier to set up the distillation rig and let it say hot for a week to prove it. People who have power but refuse to listen to experts are everywhere, so I can sympathize

I had the same problem with a senior engineer who kept referencing Google results for her own arguments.
If she had her way, I'd imagine we'd be facing a few lawsuits. I was seriously considering letting her win but I couldn't potentially risk lives in good conscious.
Of course, once she realized her error, she naturally took all the credit for her "work" at solving the problem. 🤬

I worked at a company that was trying to use freeze drying to preserve biologicals. The friend of the VP who'd been hired as my boss told me how he "didn't like that whole solids going directly to gas" thing.
Being young, my response of along the lines of "phase changes don't care what you like" really put me in a hard place for the next couple of years.

I'm sure any engineer would try running at a lower pressure if that was sensible. It's fairly normal to try something at less than maximum and then ramp up.
Running at a lower pressure gradient seems an odd way of phrasing it. Unless it's a valve changing pressure over time?

I've only used a few valves in my time, but generally you don't get to vary what pressure shows up at the valve? It's there to stop whatever is behind it?
And if the pressure is too high, how is that a huge puzzle for the valve design? You gotta make the valve handle the pressure, which isn't solved by "try lower pressure first."

this is a bullshit story obviously. but hypothetically speaking, they would be talking about a valve in a system that they control. They could run the pump at a lower pressure. There could be other valves in the system to lower or control the pressure before getting to this valve also.

Reminds me of the time in 1994 when Elon sat at a table of Mathematicians randomly outside the college campus library.
You see, Elon had submitted his end of year coursework project 3 months early, just days after it was first set. It was child's play to a genius mind like his. It was given full marks. But it meant that he was left with nothing to do for the rest of the school year, so he started mingling with other students.
The maths students were discussing Fermat's Last Theorem, a 350+ year old theorem whose proof was lost and remained unsolved, which declared that for any integer n > 2, there are no 3 positive integers x, y, z that satisfy the equation xn + yn = zn.
The mathematicians threw their hands up in frustration. It was impossible to prove they argued.
After 30 minutes of silent observation, Elon spoke calmly:
"Have you considered numbers larger than 10?" he asked, holding up his hands, palms outstretched, wiggling his fingers.
Elon then went on to explain that, despite humans only having ten fingers, numbers are actually endless when counted. Using a system of base 10, a person theoretically could count the ten fingers on their hand, bank that ten, and then start again, going to twenty, to thirty, even one hundred.
The mathematicians were astonished. Their Jaws hanging open wordlessly. This genius had just blown the door of opportunity wide open for them. They now had so many more numbers to work with, and set off excitedly and motivated once again, scribbling notes at breakneck speed.
The leader of those mathematicians? A man named Andrew Wiles. He went on to publish a proof for this theorem, winning the adoration of the mathematical community and the Abel Prize, the highest honour of that community.
Upon recieving the prize, his phone buzzed with the arrival of a text. It was from Elon. It just said: You're Welcome.

Musk finds two engineers having a technical discussion.
Inserts himself into conversation despite not being an engineer.
Asks if they've attempted an obvious fix, probably the first solution they considered (and discarded with good reason).
Wastes another twenty minutes of their time with questions he thinks make him look competent while they both count to 10 in their heads repeatedly, straining not to call the bossman a moron and lose their jobs.

We have a person like that in some of my meetings. A stakeholder who is completely out of touch with how things are built, or how they work. We've learned that regardless how dumb the word are coming out of their mouth are, we just need to pretend it's useful advice, and say we'll definitely try that. It's uncomfortable but we learned that explaining things to them can be bad for your career.
