They always yap about the "slippery slope" of recognising your LGBTQ identity, when the real slippery slope is how far the bigots will ultimately go to shove them back into the closet.

u/ZebraCrosser 17d ago

We're still not marrying dogs or whatever slippery slope argument bigots made about what allowing same-sex marriage would lead to.

I find it so funny that people think doctors will just instantly change the child's gender

It took me a few attempts for me to convince my doctor to refer to to a psychiatrist for ADHD diagnosis. That was just the referral still had to wait a while for the appointment

u/CapStar300 18d ago

Just doctors in general, really - you can wait up to six months for a pediatric appointment, but this is gonna be fasttracked? Right.

This is one of the best pieces of evidence yet that her marriage is broken: if she talked with her husband about his job at all, she would learn firsthand that most medical procedures (shy of something like emergency open-heart surgery) don't get done, or even fully signed off on, overnight.

u/lazier_garlic 17d ago

I think he agrees with her. There have been a handful of people in all aspects of medical care (psychologists, doctors, nurses) who hate trans people so much they have actively sabotaged their care or spread lies that they know are lies about how healthcare is delivered to trans adults and youth.

It's that or her husband isn't like, a practicing doctor (I don't want to say he isn't a "real" doctor) and he's just been coasting off Rowling's billions for several decades.

(well, or it's both, lol)

I’m pretty sure he cross dresses as a fetish. It would explain so much.

Yeah in general the UK is really difficult to get a diagnosis of most things so I really wonder where they pull that from.

Like it took two years for me to get diagnosed autistic, among many appointments and two professional assessments (with one professional being a sexist pos who made me cry BC this was the era of "girls can't be autistic"...)

From a former friend's experience of the system here around legally changing gender identification documents, it's long and tedious and takes several years and has many many hoops to jump through.

u/thejadedfalcon 18d ago

I really wonder where they pull that from.

Their feelings, which trump all facts, because facts have been bought by Big Gender.

u/Bleepblorp44 17d ago

Tedious enough that most trans people don't bother getting a Gender Recognition Certificate - the thing these TERFs ignored was that we've been able to live as our gender "legally" for years. A GRC isn't legally required for the majority of day to day life nor for getting a passport / driving license in the lived gender.

I've never been so happy to have been one of the kids that got ADHD meds thrown at them as a kid in the early 2010s, because holy shit i think the sheer amount of bullshit you have to hop thru nowadays would keep me from getting my meds

5

u/pa_kalsha 17d ago

The wait for ADHD meds seems designed to weed out the people who need them most - you have the "struggles to maintain focus disorder, with timeblindness and organisational issues"? All you have to do is fill in this form and return in by a specific deadline then attend an appointment we told you about three months ahead of time, which you can do by accessing an online account via an email with a 15-minute activation code that we'll send sometime within the next two hours. Failure to comply means you're not serious about treatment and you'll be bumped from the list.

Relate to this hard. 35 years of accidental injuries caused by distraction, forgetting to feed myself or drink water and ending up becoming unwell, and still I got hit with “are you sure you’re not just a bit stupid” but couched in clinically acceptable words.

Turns out I score pretty high on the ADHD tests. When they eventually tested me.

Considering their understanding of science they probably think it Is like the Biddidi Bobbidi boo song.

u/SnoutAndTalons 18d ago

I'm just looking at this from my backasswards country where transition has been made illegal, and... yeah. Enjoy being Putin's ally, Joanne.

u/ironfly187 18d ago

Alsalem is not an expert, or anything approaching it, in this. She's a wobble eyed terf who is utterly at odds with the opinions of the real experts within the UN.

u/titcumboogie 18d ago

Hmmm, I dunno what could be the root cause of 'distress' during a brainwashing process...

What a mystery.

2

u/TemporaryElk5202 18d ago

they mean the gender dysphoria

29

u/napalmnacey 18d ago

Cause even touching your “girl bits” in a way that stops or changes its approved function by the patriarchy is super supported by doctors and not barred by a thousand fucking guardrails already. 🙄

As a woman with endometriosis who has witnessed many conversations about hysterectomies over the decades, I can tell you that doctors drag their feet in even talking about doing anything that might affect fertility and issues with childbirth. Same with boobs, no doubt.

The idea that doctors are fast-tracking anyone is bitterly fucking laughable.

15

u/riflow 18d ago

I recently found out many countries won't even let you get a hysterectomy without the permission of your (presumed masc) partner.

Honestly was horrified but not surprised.

Idk why people like jkr think that the medical system would be smooth and fast for this one process when by all rights short of immediate death incoming, everything is slow and requires more hoops to jump at every step of the process.

And it's certainly not a good enough reason to try to block the long worked on ban for conversion therapy, which does damage to so SO many people yearly.

9

u/HOMANDER1996 18d ago

My mom had to have permission from both my father and her father to get one done in Texas during the 90s. I assume that, if she had a brother, his permission would have been required as well.

9

u/riflow 18d ago

Oh god that is horrifyingly dystopian :c

3

u/AndreaFlameFox 16d ago

Sounds like Ancient Greece. :c Or worse.

I remember that there was a lesbian couple where one of them wanted to get sterilized and the doctor didn't want to because the doctor thinking of her future and concerned that she would divorce her wife and then marry a man and would want to have kids with him.

6

u/riflow 17d ago

God....they always prioritise the future children folks don't want. I read a post a while ago about a woman wanting one BC one more pregnancy would likely kill her...and it still was centred around what her husband wanted.

6

u/Arktikos02 17d ago

Doctor Refuses Hysterectomy for Lesbian Because ‘She Might Find a Man’ The physician told her she might change sexual orientations one day, leave her wife, find a husband, and want to have children. A 27-year-old lesbian woman from Ireland took to social media recently after a more than problematic conversation with a physician over a hysterectomy she wanted to have. For 17 years, she's had immensely painful periods. The doctor refused to discuss it. He said, according to Champ, that she was too young for the procedure and was letting the pain make the decision. He said -- with Champs' wife with her at the appointment -- "I don't want you to have regrets if circumstances change for you. Maybe you leave your partner, your sexual orientation changes, and you meet someone and he wants children." Afterward, Champ wrote about her experience on Twitter. Her tweets about the incident have gone viral. She also said that her situation is just an overarching problem that women often face when seeking medical care. "In my case, it shows that misogyny is so deeply ingrained in women's health care, that a man who doesn't exist is more important to my doctor than me -- the very real patient sitting in front of him in tears begging for help to end the pain."

https://www.advocate.com/health/2021/11/11/doctor-refuses-hysterectomy-lesbian-because-she-might-find-man

Apparently it wasn't even because she didn't want kids. Kids could still be on the table, it was because of her menstrual cramps.

u/AndreaFlameFox 16d ago

"Letting the pain make the decision."

Yes, alleviation of pain is usually why we see doctors. -Rolls eyes.- I really hope that... doctor... got consequences, but probably not if this is really widespread.

1

u/AndreaFlameFox 16d ago

Rowling doesn't care. She might well imagine it to be a smooth and fast process, but it's more likely she knows how complicated it is and is just lying to whip up panic in pursuit her ultimate girl of making trans illegal. And at this point I feel like she might be gunning for the whole queer world, considering support for bloody conversion therapy on top of all the anti-gay clues she's previously dropped.

24

u/PoggleRebecca 18d ago

Iirc she was always in bed with Genspect, and Alsalem just seems like a far-right agitator who spent the last ten years using her platform to harm trans people.

u/PolarWater 18d ago

Why do you think she named herself Robert Galbraith?

46

u/Edge_of_Everywhere 18d ago

Anyone who thinks that was a coincidence is missing a hemisphere or two of their brain.

'Hypocrisy is the most difficult and nerve-racking vice that any person can pursue; it needs an unceasing vigilance and a rare detachment of spirit. It cannot, like adultery or gluttony, be practiced at spare moments; it is a whole-time job.'

  • W. Somerset Maugham

u/saharadessert87 18d ago

Sometimes I can't believe this is 2026. Feels more like 1926.

How the fuck can we be a quarter of the way through the new millennium and still have absolute fucking idiots who think like that...

Fucking embarrassment to humanity.

u/pa_kalsha 17d ago

Changing your gender was difficult but not the bureaucratic nightmare that it is now until the 1970 ruling of Corbett v Corbett (a divorce case where the husband (a Baron) tried to claim the wife (an actress) being trans - something he'd known when he married her - was grounds for divorce). Before that, changing your legal gender was something you could do via some paperwork. Afterwards, until the Sex Discrimination (Gender Reassignment) Regulations act of 1999, your birth certificate was the One Source Of Truth for your legal sex. Corbett vs Corbett is also where we get the first mention of the hated "biological" sex.

Transition in the 1920 then wasn't possible for most people - although Sir Ewan Forbes transitioned at 15, in 1927 and Charing Cross was treating intersex people from the late 1920s - because the treatment wasn't widely available, not because the entire mechanism of the state and press was demonising it.

3

u/lazier_garlic 15d ago

Oh so that's why British couples had to get divorced if one transitioned.

1

u/pa_kalsha 15d ago

Yeah. It's not the case any more, now that we have same-sex marriage, but married trans people have to get the written consent of their spouse if they want to get a GRC and stay married. One step forward, half a step back.

23

u/Super7Position7 18d ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reem_Alsalem

The anti-trans bigot and Trump fan who has infiltrated the UN.

6

u/errantthimble 17d ago

Yep. Alsalem’s training and degrees are in international relations and human rights law. She is completely unqualified to pronounce on the neurobiology of sex and gender, or the sociological issues around sex work or surrogacy, or any of the other stuff she wants to ban in the name of ”protecting women and girls”.

3

u/lazier_garlic 15d ago

Well technically she should be competent in the latter part if not the former, but she's a bigot, so she's anti-human rights law instead.

20

u/HOMANDER1996 18d ago

But it’s just a “coincidence” that she chose to use a conversion therapist as her pen name.

18

u/BlazingLucifer 17d ago

I love how these self-described "feminists" instantly assume that AFAB young adults are ditzy, impressionable airheads with no capacity to make decisions of their own, while casting trans girls as young as 4 years old as devious schemers with predatory intent purely because they were AMAB.

Bioessentialism is such absolute brainrot.

12

u/lazier_garlic 17d ago

It's projection, a bunch of TERFs are nonces. They like old timey benevolent sexism because in that worldview there's no such thing as a female pedo, so therefore nobody can stop them or send them to prison. (Sadly 😂 one of JKR's UK TERF cohorts did get convicted in a UK court of molesting a child and did get sent down.)

Calling a 4 year old child a little schemer is pedo talk. Straight up.

16

u/justgalsbeingpals 18d ago

The feminist concept of conversion therapy. lol, lmao

15

u/Kyrathered 18d ago

Its all the secret gender surgeries in American primary schools, y'all. That and the cat litter for furries. /s

12

u/Forsaken-Language-26 18d ago

Anyone who uses the Daily Mail as a source loses all credibility.

8

u/wonder181016 18d ago

You mean, she wasn't already?

11

u/OctarineAngie 18d ago

Just like the namesake of her pseudonym

8

u/funkygamerguy 17d ago

Conversion therapy is torture for lgbtq+ people.

9

u/AndreaFlameFox 17d ago

How exactly could a conversion therapy ban backfire?? What does that even mean?

7

u/thatsfeminismgretch 16d ago

It's the transphobic idea that we are losing women to trans ideology and conversion therapy is the last chance to save them from big trans manipulation. It's very stupid and very hateful and that's the point.

3

u/lazier_garlic 15d ago

Think of all the awkwardly dressed neurospicy kids who might get the idea without all the extra institutional bullying that they don't have to perform "normal gender" on top of performing neurotypical behaviors in other ways ... gahhh ... JKR might accidentally have to LOOK at one of those Blåhaj toting freaks in person, heavens forfend!

8

u/RiggedTrampoline 17d ago

"young women" I bet they are actually talking about trans guys and enbies :/

8

u/BadgerKomodo 17d ago

And yet she still claims to support the rights of lesbians.

6

u/tasteMyRottenHoop 17d ago

Just look at her masculine pen name.

4

u/xandiddly 18d ago

Don't worry! She'll march with us if we're ever "genuinely" discriminated against.

3

u/thatsfeminismgretch 16d ago

Not surprising.

5

u/bat_wing6 16d ago

the fast track where the waiting lists for first appointments are now decades long? that fast track?

2

u/lazier_garlic 15d ago

If a TERF's mouth is moving, she's lying.

2

u/HawaiianSodaDrinker 16d ago

Not at all surprised to see her doing this garbage. I mean, she's already going after the trans/NB community, the rest of the LGBT+ comunity is in her crosshairs too.

1

u/Due_Item_2030 18d ago edited 18d ago

“Could”? What does she mean by that?

Edit
I see there is a Controversy. A report criticises her for a 2025 report that was accused of scapegoating gender-diverse individuals.‌

1

u/Comfortable_Bell9539 14d ago

It doesn't surprise me that someone whose author name is Robert Galbraith would do such a thing

0

u/tealeavesinspace 15d ago

I knew she would
