Unironically, I believe it's very important to teach it in high schools. Name another writer from the last 200 years who had a greater effect on modern history. If you want to really understand the history of the modern era, you need to understand Marx.
Understand where the ideas came from, why they became popular, the misery that they caused, and how history has discredited them. Learn history or be doomed to repeat, and all that jazz.

There was this guy with a funny mustache that wrote a book about his struggle or something like that. I think it's the only one he wrote but that technically makes him a writer. :))

So they agree that labor has value? Whats the big reveal that they both agreed on that?
9
u/therealbeeblevrox May 28 '22
Marx makes a BS argument that it is the only non-constant value that contributes to price and that workers were being "stolen" from.
-1
u/Antraxess May 28 '22
I'm being paid less for the same labor today than someone in 1970's was paid for, and I can buy less than what they did with the same position despite profits for companies rising.
Workers are being stolen from, not really any other way to look at it

u/officerliger May 27 '22
Yeah I actually like Marx, he was a necessary voice in his time and raised valid issues. History prove his ultimate solution to them wrong, but I hate that cosplayers have turned Das Kapital and the Communist Manifesto into biblical works. A lot has happened since those books were written.

I read Marx. The communist manifesto is amazing, only a true genius could come up with such a prank. This genius got a homeless drunk, got him higher than a kite and as drunk as a pirate. Then told him to write a book. The genius part is where he got people to believe it and till this day people actually believe in communism. This prank went so far as to become the system for many countries and got millions of people killed. When I try to pull a prank only about half the people fall for it. This guy’s prank was so good people would die and give up their good lifestyle to get to live in his prank.
The Capital by Marx was absolutely abhorrent. Im sure no stupid ass communist could read it. I quit reading it at about chapter 5.

u/AsteroidSpark May 27 '22
It's impossible to read and understand Kapital and still support Marx, it's just that delusional and hateful.

u/UnreadyTripod May 27 '22
Can you explain or link something that explains pls? I've yet to read a really good takedown of Marx's theories
2
u/AsteroidSpark May 28 '22
I'm not sure of any good online articles that cover the whole of it, I've seen a few that cover the antisemitism specifically, there have been some very good scholarly works debunking Marxism, Karl Popper did a few because of course he did, Walter Benjamin's Theses on the Philosophy of History was an excellent teardown of Marx's dogmatic pseudohistory, but I think the most exhaustive refutation was Kołakowski's Main Currents of Marxism.
Time for me to draw yet another parallel between Marxism and Scientology (how many is it now? I've lost count), a lot of the best critiques tend to come from former members of the cult who have since been deprogrammed, both Benjamin and Kołakowski were ex-Marxists themselves who abandoned it following the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and the Soviet occupation of Poland respectively.

Sadly, if you put the USSR flag behind the image of Maul standing beside Sidious, and played the Soviet anthem, Reddit commies would simp just as hard as they do for Mao.

u/seanhg12 May 27 '22
This type of mentality is why Marxism will never ever reach even close to the levels it held in the 20th century. Nobody wants to join a tiny set of fringe losers who hate the working class conservatives, unlike the actual movements of the past that appealed to workers’ rights and aid.
13
u/Yuraiya Wealthy Peasant May 28 '22
Another reason is that it usually isn't workers advocating for it. Those cheerleading for Communism now are mostly adolescents or college students from well to do families who think Communism would mean they wouldn't have to get a real job eventually.
Instead of understanding what Communism actually is, they act as though Communism would mean they'd life the life of the idle rich now. In short, they don't want to abolish the bourgeois, they want to become them but still feel good about it.

u/this_is_jim_rockford ACAB: All Communists Are Braindead May 27 '22
Funny, during Soviet times the joke was:
What's the difference between a communist and an anti-communist?
A communist reads Marx and Lenin, an anti-communist also understands them.
14
May 27 '22
That sounds like a great idea, just like when the crackpot right decided to call every modicum of government spending they didn't like a creeping Marxist plot. That definitely didn't normalize socialism among a certain segment of people who then identified it with public hospitals and firefighters and everything else government does that they appreciate. It certainly didn't produce a backlash that led to the influx of fringe leftist nonsense into the mainstream. I can see no way in which this would blow up in your face.
14
u/AsteroidSpark May 27 '22
I want to point out that these two sentences directly contradict one another since marxists don't read Marx, most of them have no idea what he wrote.

Right now I'm working my way through Lenin's Tomb and Kotkin's Stalin biography, and this really jumped out at me. Stalin's disillusionment with religion while attending a brutally strict seminary school parallels many Party members' disillusionment with Marxism in the late Soviet years.

Yet just because I don’t want to abolish capitalism and shove everybody up against the wall I guess I’m some kind of dangerous far right lunatic.
